I have a 72 demon and can't get it the front end with in spec. I replaced bushings and even welded up the camber bolts and still coming up short. Tubbular control arms would solve the problem but money is tight so I would like to just lengthen or shorten the upper control arm. Any one have a pic on where and how much to lengthen or shorten? The front end is alittle high for oil pan clearance I really don't want to go lower...oil pan makes it's own track in the snow as it sits now. Any input would be great. thanks

How about the Moog offset bushings. They could get you what you need. Maybe listed as: Problem Solver bushings.

Yes I thought about that and will go that route if I can't figure out how to mod the control arms. I really like the difference in poly compared to rubber and hesitant to go back to rubber. Thanks for the fast reply.

The lower control arm take most of the loads. Getting the right performance alignment will outweigh any difference you feel or performance of the polys. You can't even get to the spec alignment numbers.

You can just take a 3/8" to 1/2" section out of the rear A-arm leg and pie slice the front leg then weld. Then overlap with some steel for good measure.

Thank you for fast reply. I wasn't meaning about performance difference...sorry if my reply mislead. Was refering to how long they last. It's a daily driver and have went through two sets up rubber between my last car and new one. I really don't enjoy replacing them. Again thanks for the info sounds alot easier then trying to extend one.

My offset rubber ones have been on the car since 1993 and about 50K miles and 5 winters in Iowa.

How long are yours lasting? I wonder if that and you not being able to get it to stock specs is related?

With modern radial tires you can run .5 degrees negative camber and 3 degree postive caster. Will make the car drive and track straighter and take some of the looseness feeling out of it.

I find the poly doesn't last, after about 8000, miles with lots of city driving my poly bushings are done, torn up.

I was getting about 2 years out of them and the lowers were getting pushed to one side and pushing out bad. I figured uppers would do the same. I just replace them all at one time. Polys have been in for over a year and seem fine.

That's what the Super Stock A-body guys did to get a lot of caster. They probably bondo's things up a bit so or put the strap underneath were you wouldn't see it so much. I'm sure there are people doing this in the stock classes today even.

When I had trouble with my front end,I installed
problem solver bushings-still not enough. So I shortend my strut rod to pull the control arm forward. Did a garage floor alingment and the car drove great. A couple years later I wanted more caster so I bought tubular arms anyway. Mike

Where you using the poly strut rod bushings? Those are thicker than stock by about 3/16". I shaved mine 3/16" in addition to running Moog 7103 offset bushings. How to here: http://users.erols.com/mathewg/bushings.html

I can get 5-6 degrees of postive caster if I keep the camber under 1/2 degree. I ran 1.5 negative camber this time and only could get 4.3 degrees positive caster.

What caster did you have before the tubular UCA's? How much now with the tubular UCA's.

Steve, I rebuilt the front end 6years ago, I bought
all rubber, But I think I used poly on the strut rods, not sure.

I welded the strut rods so I could create a new shoulder. Put the rod in a lathe, machined off the old shoulder and cut a new one.

1 degree max. caster w/ about 1 degree neg.camber w/ old A arms.

Settings now are 3.5 pos. caster, 1.5 neg. camber.
more is possible not sure how much.

Brad, sorry if this looks like a hyjack.

Mike

is your car stock height? and are you using stock specs. if you have changed height(most of us have) you have to consider the angles, they will change the factory specs. I have a tire store and do alignments, a younger tech will go by factory specs and not comp for heigth changes, make sure who is doing align knowns this
