1995 Grand Cherokee. I picked this up recently from a friend of a friend of a friend They were driving it near their home when they were t-boned in the drivers side front fender. Not a very hard hit as there was only fender, bumper, and headlight damage cosmetically and the lower control arm mount and wheel were bent. So mechanically it is an easy fix.

Problem I have is that it won't start. Previous owner claims they drove it home after the hit, which was only a few blocks. When a battery is connected, the lights all start to flash like the alarm has been triggered. I've tried locking and then unlocking the drivers side door as a reset, but it still flashes.

I suspect the collision set off some codes I need to clear before it will start, but with the complexity of the collision detection, alarm, and other modules, not sure where to start. A guy I spoke with locally said to bypass the alarm by cutting a purple/yellow wire in the kick panel and grounding it. Not sure that is the best place to start though.

Suggestions?

On some I could hook the battery up with the key in the run posistion and sometimes it would stop the alarm. Also if it has a pass door lock try that one as many times I saw the drivers door lock switch broke from being used so much. But on the ones with the pass door switch it usually works since that door switch hardly ever gets used. They did stop putting in pass door alarm switches at a certain year but I cant remember what year. And later they stopped putting a pass door lock cyl in all together on them. I think that 95 may have a pass door switch. There is a wire you can ground to kill the alarm but I would have to look it up as I dont remember which wire it is. Ron

The '95 has a passenger side lock cylinder. Heck, even my '98 still has the passenger side lock so it may not have been until after '99 when they redesigned most of the vehicle that they ditched the lock on that side.

I'll give that a try and see what results I get.

Thanks!

Tied unlocking/locking passenger side door and it did reset the alarm so the lights quite flashing on and off. Still won't start though. Did find a cracked and burned coil terminal on the distributor cap. Replaced the cap and rotor with no change in starting. So on to more traditional test methods to try and isolate ignition and fuel concerns.
