I've seen the cam bolt back out and punch a hole in the back of the water pump/timing cover.

My 340 cracked a cly wall and mixed coolant with the oil. Car still ran great. Too much coolant in the oil will wipe the bearings. The crack was so small I could not see it with my bare eye.

Could be just the intake??? I don't know if it's copper or bronze that you are seeing. Bronze cam gears always leave a little showing in the oil.

Cracked head or block? I had a 408 stroker built from mid 80s 360 and the heads had cracked.

could be the timing cover, intake gasket, or crack in block.Watered down oil caused bearings to fail(the copper). Tear down and insp. time. wrench scope

What's worse is did the seller know about the problem and had fresh oil in it when he sold it!

I've had a cam bolt back out, but it took a while before it cracked the cover. Also had cracked cylinder wall let water in.
