Group: Have purchased a 71 Challeger with a 472 Crate motor / 727TF combo.

Looking to upgrade to aluminum heads dual quad intake. Would appreciate your suggestions on sorceing parts. Edelbrock is an obvious "kit", but what others would be the question?

The long term plans would be procharged, water/methonal fuel injected upgrades. Getting set for those now.

Looking for 900hp in a street / strip car.

Currently 591hp 580tq N/A

Links to threads here and on other sights appreciated as well as suggestions!

Thanks in advance.

Clay

Are you looking for an add on or a build to fit your needs?

I dont have much faith in mopar crate motors that have not been torn down and inspected from a quality control aspect.

You could have Modern Cyl. head CNC port your existing heads. My MP heads are just aluminum versions of the cast iron heads you have...ported they flow 430 cfm and make somewhere close to 850 hp N/A on pump gas on my 572" motor.
Get a custom roller cam for it and put on a Stage V dual quad intake.
This is assuming the bottom end is in good condition and would be a hell of an upgrade over the standard crate motor.

Like EV2 said, those crate motors have a horrible reputation for build quality and have all kinds of issues.

Don't know whos crate it is but have NOT heard good things about "crates".
What CR is that engine at??Will it be intercooled?
1000 hp is very easy wit that cubic inch.
Will you do this on your own or do you have a machine shop?
Post some pictures of that bad boy whistling

The Edelbrock heads are probably the best choice, but a 472 is 4.25" bore. The Edelbrock intake valve won't open on a 4.25 bore unless you notch the bores, so you will have to take the engine out of the car and tear it all the way down.

I have heard the same for the crate motors....have them gone thru.

The motor was gone thru by the previous owner. Have dyno printouts, receipts, and images on the dyno.

So looking to add on. Aluminum heads to save weight and I don't really want the car down. Would rather gather parts and install. Keeping the car drive-able keeps me motivated.
