Mine is off my shifter. A little too close as I usually pull the shifter down into gear to set it up...

Mine have all been like the ones pictured. Braket made off the shifter mount.

Nothing fancy here but I have it mounted to the right of me and if I want to double class box and no-box its mounted on a heavy duty piece of stainless steel on Velcro. It takes about 5 seconds to remove it and plug in a 4 wire boat trailer plug and jumper so if needed my trans-brake still works.
