I know many of you have dealt with this already, and I'm finally there. My Wife and I usually have a 10 year old Dakota, and another 10 year old front scratcher for dailies. Haven't had a car payment in over 12 years. Then we have the 1 ton, and the 67 Belvedere for back-ups.
My oldest daughter just killed her car, and she's been using our 99 Sebring. After 6 years and 75K I'm so tired of that car I want the daughter to just keep it.
So I start looking at LX stuff, first at reasonably priced ten year old cars, but then at nice performance based models. As fate would have it I found my dream car, in the right color, but even used it's expensive, and I'd have to sell the Belvedere and convince the wife I was replacing both our daily, and one of the hot rods to pull it off. I like having a healthy bit of scratch to throw at my toys and a car payment would cut into that.
Or I buy a 6k car and keep improving the 67 Belvedere.
What scares me is I see guys get a hard running LX, and then ALL their old stuff just sits after that!

The one I've fell in love with is 2012 SRT8 6.4...Muscle guy til I die. My youngest daughter just bought a 2015 200S 4cyl., super nice car at a great price.

I have both. As a daily driver an LX is light years ahead of even a car from the '90s.

Ya gotta go with what you like. Sure for a daily driver the LX is nice as long as you can afford it. For my muscle car its gotta be old school for me as thats what I love. I enjoy driving my 63 as much as I can and I really enjoy racing it when I can. If it was in my budget I would have no problem with an LX car as my daily driver. Ron

I've got a 2012 SE Charger with the 3.6 and the 8spd. I reasoned with myself that I didn't need a 'fast' modern car, though supposedly it's as quick as a 05-08 LX hemi car. 35mpg @ 75mph down the road is hard to beat. Since we have real winter I need something other than the old cars, but since my Charger and Fury both have OD and air, and I have a motorcycle, the 2012 doesn't get a lot of commute miles in nice weather.
That said, there's a 2015 Hellcat Charger with 1500mi for $58k a couple miles from my house that I see almost everyday. Good thing I don't have the money to spend on it :P

i read the post at least 3 timest ,Billy; but still can't figure out what you guys are talking about with all this car or that car stuff. All I see is: "Mrs. MoparBilly for wife of the century" You'd have to "convince the wife" in order to sell ONE of the hot rods and buy a nice newer car???

If you can get a used LX that isn't too ragged out - I'd go that route. My 2006 Magnum is an 11 year old car with 216,000 miles on it. I'm currently putting 500-1000 miles a week on it. I will replace it at the end of the year - and thank it for its faithful service. It has been a great car and worth the money. Mine is the SXT with the 3.5. All I have ever done is oil changes and a little normal maintenance on the car.

For me I like having a newer car that doesn't require a bunch of my time, but is fun to drive. The wife's current car is a 2010 Challenger R/T classic, before that was a SRT4.
I no longer let my drivers become my toys. For me it is like a Alcoholic having a drink

What would your brothers say if you bought a V6 when you could have bought the SRT 6.4?
