I know many of you have dealt with this already, and I'm finally there. My Wife and I usually have a 10 year old Dakota, and another 10 year old front scratcher for dailies. Haven't had a car payment in over 12 years. Then we have the 1 ton, and the 67 Belvedere for back-ups.

My oldest daughter just killed her car, and she's been using our 99 Sebring. After 6 years and 75K I'm so tired of that car I want the daughter to just keep it.

So I start looking at LX stuff, first at reasonably priced ten year old cars, but then at nice performance based models. As fate would have it I found my dream car, in the right color, but even used it's expensive, and I'd have to sell the Belvedere and convince the wife I was replacing both our daily, and one of the hot rods to pull it off. I like having a healthy bit of scratch to throw at my toys and a car payment would cut into that.

Or I buy a 6k car and keep improving the 67 Belvedere.

What scares me is I see guys get a hard running LX, and then ALL their old stuff just sits after that!

If you are talking about a daily the LX is hard to beat. If you aren't hung up on a V8 go drive a v6 Chrysler 200. My mother has an AWD V6 200 (we're in Wisconsin so AWD is great) and that car rips! I believe it's a 295hp v6 in a small car, great interior and body lines

I just put motor mounts in an 06 300 C (5.7) with 183K miles on it Friday. I couldn't believe how tight that car still felt. IIRC they replaced all the struts at 120K along with the steering.

we bought our daughter a 13 200 before her move to Phoenix. 4cylinder, but a nice car to drive. reasoning behind that choice is that is one combo that I never see at work. smile

3.6 is a fine engine.... but I still see our line guy pulling heads on them on a regular basis (misfire/valve seats).

The one I've fell in love with is 2012 SRT8 6.4...Muscle guy til I die.
My youngest daughter just bought a 2015 200S 4cyl., super nice car at a great price.

I have both. As a daily driver an LX is light years ahead of even a car from the '90s.

Ya gotta go with what you like. Sure for a daily driver the LX is nice as long as you can afford it. For my muscle car its gotta be old school for me as thats what I love. I enjoy driving my 63 as much as I can and I really enjoy racing it when I can. If it was in my budget I would have no problem with an LX car as my daily driver. Ron

We have a 2010 300C SRT8 with 40k miles in the garage. Nobody ever drives unless we are going on a long trip on paved roads. It's a nice car, we love it. Personally I think used 300's are some of the best values on the market.

That said, the reason it has low miles is the fun factor. Our 67 300, 66 Coronet convertible, 66 Coronet ht, '66 Charger and the Power Wagons always get chosen over the new 300.

Love my 300C. Not quite an SRT but no slouch.

I've got a 2012 SE Charger with the 3.6 and the 8spd. I reasoned with myself that I didn't need a 'fast' modern car, though supposedly it's as quick as a 05-08 LX hemi car. 35mpg @ 75mph down the road is hard to beat. Since we have real winter I need something other than the old cars, but since my Charger and Fury both have OD and air, and I have a motorcycle, the 2012 doesn't get a lot of commute miles in nice weather.

That said, there's a 2015 Hellcat Charger with 1500mi for $58k a couple miles from my house that I see almost everyday. Good thing I don't have the money to spend on it :P

i read the post at least 3 timest ,Billy; but still can't figure out what you guys are talking about with all this car or that car stuff. All I see is: "Mrs. MoparBilly for wife of the century"

You'd have to "convince the wife" in order to sell ONE of the hot rods and buy a nice newer car??? up

Really is this a question? Might as well get a minivan as an LX car and the van is better looking.

and minivans can haul engines, transmissions, and rear ends ! kind of tough to do in a 200, 300, or charger.

If you can get a used LX that isn't too ragged out - I'd go that route. My 2006 Magnum is an 11 year old car with 216,000 miles on it. I'm currently putting 500-1000 miles a week on it. I will replace it at the end of the year - and thank it for its faithful service. It has been a great car and worth the money. Mine is the SXT with the 3.5. All I have ever done is oil changes and a little normal maintenance on the car.

"What scares me is I see guys get a hard running LX, and then ALL their old stuff just sits after that!"

For me I like having a newer car that doesn't require a bunch of my time, but is fun to drive. The wife's current car is a 2010 Challenger R/T classic, before that was a SRT4.

I no longer let my drivers become my toys. For me it is like a Alcoholic having a drink

I have a 2014 300 with a 3.6. It is rated at 300 HP. Coupled the the 8 spd trans it makes an awesome package. That combo keeps the 3.6 in it's power band when accelerating. It pulls really hard for full size car and a small engine combo. Very nice leather interior and sound system. And an exceptionally quite ride at cruising speeds. Best car I've ever owned. I don't think you would regret getting one.

I recently totaled my wife's daily driver, and bought a 2013 300C 3.6 w/ 8spd trans to replace it. It has damn near everything on it except a sunroof. It was an exec lease turn in with only 13k miles and I gave 21k for the car. It is an awesome car in every respect. Now is a great time to buy lease turn ins as the dealers are having trouble selling 4dr sedans. Shop around and find the one you like you will not regret it.

What would your brothers say if you bought a V6 when you could have bought the SRT 6.4?

5.7 Hemi at a minimum I'm thinking. 300C or an R/T car.
