I see on FHO's website a modified version of the Millennium 2000 head which has chambers that have a similar appearance to the Gen III chamber.

It also sports a 2.55 intake valve with a huge cfm number attached.

I doubt if he'll remember, but I had a short discussion with Ray Barton many yaers ago about closing down the sides of the traditional HEMI chamber to reduce the volume and lighten the piston.

I wonder if anyone has made a serious attempt with this head in a high rpm (9000+) package???

One of the most interesting stories in the development of the 426 Hemi was when they asked Harry Weslake to help them. He flys over from England and they go to the airport to pick him up. On the way back to the office he perfectly describes the Gen III chamber and the advantages. But nobody heard him because they felt the chamber design was cast in stone. They knew the early Hemi chamber would work and they didn't have time to go on a radical chamber redesign.

I remember hearing about some involvement from HW, but didn't know that was part of the discussion.

Intresting stuff.

You have to remember that the hemi program was moving at light speed. The fact that they designed and built it in months is a miracle in itself. The fact that they are still the king over 50 years later is a wonder of modern science.

Ken Veney's latest alcohol head has the sides of the chamber pulled inward. They have been out for a few years.

Funny, I saw a photo of an Ardun OHV flat head conversion on television yesterday. These were developed by the Duntov brothers.

My first thought was how much it looked like a Gen III chamber.

Remember the Boss 429 Ford motor had a similar chamber instead of being a true Hemi open chamber. Roush could not get it to run with the 426 so he opened the chamber up into a full Hemi design and wala... he made more power...

I've asked this same question on hear in the past and didn't get much of a reaction from what I remember. Everyone moans and complains about the weight of a Hemi piston, Gen III'ing a Gen II chamber will solve all of that and give some quench. It baffles me it's never been done, but it sounds like someone finally is. As long as you don't shroud the valve I can't see it being a hinderence?

The brad heads I have owned are similar to a traditional chamber design just flatter and less volume.

The Brad heads you are talking about (I believe he call those his "fat" heads) are basically a D-5 chamber, which is shallower and I believe around 100cc.

The heads I'm talking about are his #8 heads with the exotic single shaft rocker arms devil
