"Inviolet" would be Plymouth's version of Dodge's Plum Crazy. I don't think it is a border thing.

Names From Big Brother and The Great White North. Some of the Canadian names for the HIP colors were different from their U.S. counterparts. For example, the code FC7 was Ultra Violet for Canada. FJ5 was dubbed Lime Green. Additionally, some also received corporate names such as code FJ6 was named Brite Yellow Green, FM3-Penta-Magenta, Ceramic Red, Purple Metallic for EV7, and Super Yellow for FY1, which was both a Canadian name and a corporate name.

Weird, I have Canadian and US versions of the '70 Challenger brochures and I never noticed any differences.

I live in the Great White North and everyone here that I know refers to FC7 as either In Violet or Plum Crazy. No one here calls FY1 Lemon Twist "Super Yellow" Same goes for FJ5 and the rest of the colours mentioned in the quote. They are all referred to the same way as the Americans. The odd time you might here somebody call FC7 as Plum Crazy Purple instead of Plum Crazy. This is just a common mistake for everyone and I disregard it. This may be a prime example of fake news. Just because it is written down somewhere doesn't mean it is true.

You can believe what you want...

Got some friends deep into Mopars up there that I have known for many years...

One who has had an FC-7 '71 GTX since '72...

They agree with the above info...

Personally, I don't deal with info that was 'written down somewhere'...

True - we live in an age where "facts" don't need to be backed up.

However, a little diligence will show you are right about the colors in Canada.

I'd be interested in finding a dealer book to see if the naming was consistent to this brochure, or if it was reflective of the names in the U.S.

I have a dealer book from a Canadian dealership such as yours above but for the Satellite models. I'll take a pic of the paint chip chart on the back of the brochure and post to this topic for all to see. I can vouch for the fact that nobody here in the NCA calls Plum Crazy "Ultra-Violet". By here, I mean the NCA National Capital Area. Thanks.

It seems for 1971 they went back to "normal," but look at this Plymouth brochure:

Seems they're using some Dodge names for a Plymouth!

I bet it was a lack of marketing quality control rather than truly having special names for the Canadian market, but who knows?

also, current "jargon" has been influences by decades of musclecar collector books/magazines that have been entirely based on US print info

the CANADA spec. info is so RARE - "WE" collectively have little to ZERO info on CANADA pricing - ever seen an original CANADA dealer destination window sticker or price guide?

"PLUM CRAZY PURPLE" PCP is the official name for the current/modern Chargers/Challengers

My so called Canadian dealership book has turned out to be American. But you may or may not find a thing or two that is odd ball about this,

Also dealer for Renault and Peugot. A 1968 Reneault 8 was my first car. It was also the crappiest I have ever rode in.

Yep, all the high impact colours are wrong except for Tor-red. Don't know about the others. They look ok to me.

I would like to see a return to all the crazy descriptors they had for the paint colours back in the late 60s and early 70s. Especially the rejected descriptors that I mentioned in a previous post. I reckon what may not be acceptable for 70's society may very well be acceptable now( and even considered tame) by 2017 society.

http://www.allpar.com/cars/production/plymouth-canada.html

The above is for Plymouths produced in Canada all years.

I thought that this was an interesting read. There is probably a similar article on the same web site for Dodge production in Canada....all years. There are some years where there is sketchy information like after 67 and before 75. It's well known that Chrysler Canada made some terrible decisions in the 60's.
