Yes +4 ATF supersedes Dexron and ATF III in Mopar applications. Go ahead and use it.

It might be just fine, but I was warned by my step-father many years ago never to mix transmission fluid since some combinations can "foam"..... for whatever that's worth.

ok then based on the article - 1) “The previous MOPAR ATF+3® formulation was discontinued in 2005 and ATF+4® is recommended for all transmissions filled with ATF+3®.” 2)"You can use ATF+3 with all older Chrysler transmissions" then i should be able to use 4 in my 1969 727 right? and what is meant by 'shearing'??

then i should be able to use 4 in my 1969 727 right? While mine was leaking profusely through the shifter seal I was topping mine off with ATF+4. But it's driven VERY little. I've had the leak repaired and fluid changed, the shop filled it with a "global synthetic", I've seen the spec sheet, it's compatible with everything, including things that are incompatible with each other? Check it out: http://www.service-pro.com/documents/WarrenSpecs/WA-GlobalFullSynMulti-VehicleATF.pdf I dunno whether to leave it in there and be happy or what. Robert

There is a SAE paper on ATF+4 performance versus the three other common trans fluids http://dastern.torque.net/techdocs/nonlamp/982674.pdfIt is worth noting that ATF+4 will allow clutches to slip earlier. See Table 10 and Figure 9 This is probably only important when friction materials and clearances are worn. Other figures in the paper show that ATF+ has an improved life, and has special torque converter "shutter" characteristics.

If you don't have a lockup converter or OD, you're wasting your money on +4.
