Whats everyones view on sprung or solid wheelie bars, currently I have the 60'' long competition engineering ones with the top bars sprung, I would like to lower the bars more but I'm just about out of adjustment, if I made them solid it would take about 3 to 4 inches of travel out of the bars my thought to keeping the front end from coming up so high, ive seen a lot of cars with solid bars that look like they work great, ive also read that you only need the sprung upper bar for small tire cars with big horse power to cushion the hit.

I like to have the spring on the shorter bars..
long bars I like solid.. when I say long.. 70"
and longer.. sounds like you need to move the
upper mounting points on your.. just cut them
off and move them back farther... now that you
know where the wheel sits when its in gear you
can move the adjuster to most of the way in..
(about 3/4 of the way in) and reweld the upper
mounts

If you actually "use" the bars, meaning they are part of your suspension setup, personally I think sprung bars are useless. If they are just a safety measure, springs are fine. But a 60" bar is fairly long and I don't think should be sprung regardless

I agree 100% I use a sprung set that is only there if needed and to also not be as violent as a unsprung set and slam the front end into the pavement, I also don't use mine as a tuning aid just as a safety net in the event it decides to hang em high, which it has done before, I then look into suspension adjustments to tone it down.

I removed the springs on mine and replaced them with pieces of tubing to make them solid. Mine are 66 inch long, and work like they should now that I have enough wieght on the front end to help limit the shock of hitting the bars.

As stated, a 60" bar shouldn't need to be sprung, especially on a 4 link car with a low CG. But if they are already bought and paid for and the car does get up on them, working with the springs may get the results you want.

I've worked with high CG, quick 60' cars with short bars specified by the rules. The springs provided with the bars went to coil bind instantly and unloaded the tires. Some sourcing and experimenting with springs that had a much higher spring rate made all the difference in the world.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

I have a short WB car and I have a 65" set
of wheelie bars with the springs.. the 60' is
a 1.19 with a SB N/A 405ci.. runs straight and
comes up easy onto the bars.. thats why I like
the springs.. it doesnt hit hard to upset the
chassis... I have tried putting tubes on them
but I didnt like it.. so I went back to springs
set fairly snug
