Will a speedo cable from a later B body 66-68 fit a 64 speedo head unit. Since I'm converting my car to more street than strip I was thinking of a working speedometer. My factory speedo cable used a one piece adapter that is part of the cable.
Any one else use a later B cable in an early B body shruggy

Are you going to a later trans? If so there is a cable made for a Camero that works perfectly, I'll have to look throught my notebooks for the listing and will get back to you.
Also a 66 cable works too.

Contact Redline gauges in Southern California..... They can probably build you whatever you want, and a quality made cable/housing.....

Just A bodies here but the problem I ran into with a 64 A speedo and a later trans was that there was a one year only cable that matched both ends (66 or 67?). not sure if that helps or not. I might still have it if needed

Later trans? I used a '66 Charger cable from Imperial Specialties in my '63 & '64 stock speedometers, worked fine with later 727 & 833 I'd installed in them.

Thanks a lot guys this gives me all the info I need to get my speedo working. I have been using late model transmissions since I pulled the slant and three speed out. I never used a speedo with the Richmond 5-speed because it used a GM style adapter. Now I have a street Hemi box in the car and it would be nice to know how fast I'm going laugh2

Thanks again guys thumbs

I put a 73ish 727 in my 64 Belvedere wagon, and bought a speedometer cable kit at CARQUEST. They had a housing with the proper ends, and length close enough. I had to make one end of the cable itself with an end that crimped on after I cut the cable to proper length to fit the housing. It wasn't expensive, and worked great. I don't know if they still have something like that since CARQUEST is now Advance Auto Parts. Good luck. up

You may want to do a search on Imperial Services before ordering anything there. Plus, I think any number of the suggestions here using off-the-shelf parts store stuff could work. It depends on what transmission you have.

Check Control Cables, Inc. in Santa Fe Springs, CA. http://www.controlcables.com/

Chances are very high that whoever is selling cables is getting them made at this place and $$$ marking them up. Send them either dimensions, two cable housings each with the correct end fittings you want to use, overall length measurement, etc. They are VERY helpful over the phone or internet and they catalog your application if you or a buddy ever needed another one. I've had them make stock looking throttle cables and E-brake cables for early B-body using Wilwood disc rear. I've been extremely satisfied with their work. Short turn around times but always good to have your 'end in view' and work the long-lead time parts of your project first. And, Redline Gage Works in Santa Clarita, CA are simply awesome at what they do. And, no. I don't work for Control Cables, Inc.

Wow. You say you have a Sports Fury? Talk about rare.

Getting the proper tranny gear so the speedometer will read correctly may be the hardest part of getting it working properly work twocents grin
I'm getting ready to go through that now on my 1966 Dodge Coronet Deluxe that was a six cylinder three speed car originally that now has 464 C.I 440 pump gas motor with a Dana 60 with 3:54 gears and a NP 833 O.D. tranny shruggy Thankfully I have a decent selection of OEM gears with different teeth count on them so maybe I'll get lucky and have the correct one to get it to read + - 2 MPH at 60 MPH luck

You may need the gear reducer, I don't know the proper name for that device, like the factory put on the original M.W and Hemi race cars that came with 4:56 or lower gear sets on the tranny to hook the speedometer cable to work shruggy

The reduction unit is only .80 so it barely covers 3.91 with most tires; 4.56, nope.

My 1963 415 HP Belevedere with the 4.56 in it had that on the stock pushbutton tranny, I bought that car from the second owner in 1971 and it seemed like the speedometer was correct according to the CA speedometer checks on the freeways back then with the F70x14 Firestone wide ovals tires on it shruggy

Like I said the GM cable fits both ends, screw on end for cluster and screw on end for trans, in any length you need, for $38. There are more than enough speedo gears for the 66 and up trans to choose from to get the speedometer right.
