A back brace and a good front support for sure.. spool.. thats all I have in my 9".. I dont have the spool but mine is just a street car EDIT There are a few different 9" carriers..nodular is a decent one.. thats production on some of them (Bronco I believe).. it has a extra web on it

When I had a 9 inch under the Savoy it had the double rib "WAR" carrier and it's still in use under a 67 Camaro running low 9' s. I used the Daytona pinion support and 33 spline Moser axles and spool. Make sure you get the solid spacer to replace the crush sleeve. I've been seriously considering pulling the Dana and going back to the 9 inch just because of the easy service and wide range of gear options. Gus

They reason the Dana is more popular than the Ford 9 inch is because this is a MOPAR site. LOL. I've had all three (8 3/4, Dana and Ford 9 inch) and currently have 2 Dana's and one 9 inch and I wish all three were 9 inches and may be someday. Build a nice 9 inch and don't look back. If I was starting from new I would probably at least order a fab housing and go from there but price it out for a complete unit and you may save money.

Hefner 9" housing has internal bracing and is very precisely machined on mount surface and tubing mounts. Strange sells a version of this housing as their own. Buying new, there is no way I'd go with anything but a strange ultracase. Wicked strong pinion support, forced pinion oiling, large pinion shaft option, speed sensor mount, capable of 9 1/2" gears if needed, etc... Not much cost difference, and you will never have to think about the rear ever again.

SAE engineers (not owned by mopar) rated the 8.75 over the 9 inch----and the dana 60 over both as stock units......if you want to spend lots of money and be able to say 9 inch all the time then build a 9 inch---the aftermarket chased the 9 and made it what it is today---the same way the aftermarket chased the SBC and made it what it is today....maybe we should all be putting chevys in our muscle cars--it only makes sense... Thats true in the STOCK form.. not many of us run anything in the stock form.. a few bucks(not many at all) and you have a nice 9".. the support is the biggest thing and thats not much at all.. then the spool which most guys would do anyways and the back brace which is another cheap item.. once we learn what gear we like MOST of us never change gears again unless you build a different combo.. now days there are way more gear choices for a 9" than any other

I know this is not what you asked, but unless money is no object or you want to change ratios a lot you really should consider a Dana 60.
A 9 inch can be built to be as strong as a Dana but at more expense. While heavier the Dana will probably be at least as fast, maybe faster because it takes less horsepower to drive it.
I am no expert but I have researched this earlier. My personal experience as many others on this board has been to switch from an 8 3/4 to a Dana and not slow down a bit. The added efficiency of the Dana makes up for the additional weight. An 8 3/4 is more efficient than a 9 inch. That being said I think there are some really high dollar 9 inch center sections with special gears that relocate the pinion and make the 9 inch very efficient.
Again, my answer to a question you did not ask.
Good Luck with your project!
Bill With a nine inch rear the ratio of Pro gears is almost unlimited. That's why I switched my Dana 60 to a Strange 9" in my Dart. Only runs mid 8's@3550 lbs so far, but I'm hoping to pick it up some this next year.

Heard it all and for me I'm using the 9 for parts availability and ease . Going to sell all my 83/4 parts to pay for it.

Matt another consideration on whose 9" parts to buy is who is paying contingency money on the racing you want to do. It is nice to cash a check once in a while. Just something else to consider.

So let's say 3200 lbs A body mono springs with T brake. Looking at low 8s. What should I be looking for? Matt I'm curious what your combo is if you will share. That's a big goal. Not saying it can't happen or being negative at all, just curious how you're going about it
