I'd want ~7/8" from the closest part to the rad. You said B body so I am assuming BB. You might be able to press the pump cross a bit rearward & how far might depend on how close the pulley is to the 4 bolts and you can get button head bolts that are much thinner. (support the shaft on the other side when/if pressing). iirc on a BB you could mill the pump housing mounting faces so the pump sits further rearward. 440source & speedway mtrs have pump and crank dampener shims. EDIT yes if the Hayden will take care of you then that'd be an easy fix
