A pressure gauge you can see at the top end is about the only way you will know for sure if you are low on flow capacity. Every combo is a bit different due to small differences in the lines, etc. Best to go with a better stock type pump and be sure you have enough flow by checking.

11.30-122 @ 3815 lbs.
Carter high volume mechanical Stock 5/16 lines and pick-up.
440 with a plate nitrous system in a 67 Belvedere. It would nose over at 112 mph with the previous stock style pump...so another vote for the Carter!!

I had a carter high volume pump and 3/8 lines front to back on my street 360, ran high 12's with 3.23's and stock converter. Fuel pressure gauge showed pressure dropping to 1-3 psi at the top end. Replaced with a BG electric pump, full 1/2" return system . No changed in ET, and the pump was loud...never again.

You can get way more than 350 HP from a stock pump! I have 500+ HP 446 with a 6 pack and a hemi return filter and have plenty of fuel even with the fuel returning to the tank.
I also have 340 with eddie heads and hi compression 11-1 and have run the car three different years out at Bonneville at wide open throttle for more than 5 miles at a time with a hemi return filter and did not run out of fuel with a stock airtex mechanical fuel pump. I beat the car for many passes out there and never ran out of fuel even with a return line. How many can say they tested there fuel system that way?
Plus I have run many drag cars all the way to 3000 HP and know fuel systems well.
Your 360 is fine with a mechanical fuel pump and you don't need more from my experience unless you got money to burn and want to worry about vapor lock with the wrong sized pump and lines.
Like said above, plenty of fast cars with 5/16" lines and mechanical pumps. "Hemi return filter" do you mean the vapor can that looks like a filter? If so they only had a 1/16 " hole for vapor and maybe some fuel returning to the tank. Just read about this in my 69 Plymouth service manual. They were used in the hp 440 and hemi cars because the higher pressure pumps they used would tend to vapor lock. Use the high volume pump with the good cam eccentric. Make sure to reset the floats since the pressure will be higher. That test for pumps where you time how fast it fills a gallon can, bs, marketing ploy by Barry Grant Correction, went back and looked in the manual of the fuel separator and it does have a screen in it.

That's what I was wondering. I feel like fuel systems end up way overbuilt a lot of times. Was really wanting some real world ets on stock stuff. I have a carter on the shelf I may stick on but I think I'll stick a gauge on it for curiosity sake first. Thanks fellas! Did a 750 Proform carb for a customer and he swore the tune was off so we spent a few hrs messing w/it then I convinced him to install a fuel pressure gauge and sure enuff, it was falling from 6, 5, 4, 3 then 2 lbs as the r`s went up. Put a bigger mechanical pump on and had to jet the carb back up and it now flys..........

A good high volume mechanical pump will work great on some pretty serious motors. A stock replacement pump...not so much.
