For a drag race only car, no exhaust just headers; where have you guys mounted the wide band Q2 sensor for an LM-1 kit?

Pictures would also be appreciated.

I would put it in the collector. If you don't have extensions at the ends of the collectors, I would mount it as far to the front of the collector as I could, I hear you don't want it too close to the outlet to prevent outside oxygen to contaminate the w/b's reading. I wouldn't put it in a primary tube though, because you never know if that one cylinder is indicitave of the actual a/f of the whole.

I think that in Innovates user guide, they say thew correct distance to install the bungs. You canŽt place it to near from the heads because the high temperature. (see attach)

IŽll take a look.

Bung goes in top where the tubes meet the collector and on the collector or to the side near the top.Disconnect E-vac if you have it for a run.

FYI,
I have mine in a 4" dia collector, just after the tubes maybe 8" from the outlet. It gets all sorts of outside air at low throttle positions, so it is useless in the pits. When I footbrake it, it clears up nicely around 2000-2200 rpm and seems fine at WOT. I think a 12-18" extension would allow it to work at idle, etc.

Mr. P body, it will be in the dragster show. i will not leave them in I will remove the sensors after geting the tune up correct and put plugs in the bungs. I am trying E85 on the car and need to find the safe tune without hurting anything. The calculated compression is 13.7 so I do not really know if the e85 will work for me.

Bob try to keep the bungs as far forward as possible
but still in the path of all 4 tubes, like has been
said already if you get near the collector exit it
can pick up outside air. You could had a slip fit
collector extension with the bung on the front of
it(a collector that can tighten down) then when
completed you take it off.
I run 14.1:1 on E-85 but my cam has a 112 LSA installed
at 106 or 108 I forget right now... runs good on it

I am 13.6 with the ross big dome piston (14cc), EZ-1 heads at 75 CC and a .060 cometic gasket (to get the static compression down). My cam is 282/274 @ .050 on a 110 CL in at 108. I am very worried about beig able to run E85 and bought the LM-1 as I think I need all the help I can get in getting it set up.

The removable collector extension sounds like a good idea.

Bob I wouldnt worry with the 110 LSA, your 2* shorter
and a 1/2 compression point less. The E-85 will
run cooler so that less prone to detonation .
If you go with the collector extension make sure its
sealed so you dont pull in air at the joint and get
a false reading

Disconnect E-vac if you have it for a run.

Does E-VAC effect the O2 reading? Would it effect if the O2 sensor bung was upstream from the E-VAC????

Yes the evac will effect the reading... unless its
up stream like you stated

My 511 CID has 13.5 CR, flat tops, 68cc, 0.039" quench. My cam is 279/287 at 0.050" on a 110 LC in at 106.

I ran E85 with 83-84% ethanol all last year in this setup with no problems. I would worry about winter/spring grade E85 (70-80 percent ethanol). I call the station and make sure the batch they have is a high percent ethanol, then fill a 55 gallon barrel.

Thans for getting back to me. I will weld up the headers next week. So, the LM-1 will allow me to get the air/fuel ratio right, but is there any way of knowing if the engine is detonating (knocking)? I certainly can't hear it.

Do you guys just compare Race gas performance to E85 perfomance and if they are about the same and the A/F ratio is in the rich side, assume that the engine is OK with the Octane of the fuel.

Sorry to be an idiot here, but I ahve the same concerns with Race gas and add Tetraethelene Lead to it to be on the safe side.

How do you tell if the engine has enough octane?

I have a question on this as well...Make sure you answers Bobs first.

What needs to be done to the carb to make it E85 compatible? Can you just jet up a gas carb?
