Not all steel carriers are the low gearset, the steel carriers were introduced in '74...long before the low gearset.

Do me a favor.. measure the diameter of both.. I did on the screen and it shows different.. but that might be my screen or your camera angle

Don't forget to weld the steel planet. Redo the factory weld and weld the fillet. Taken many apart that were pre-broken.

I did reweld them. I started going around one then I felt like it was getting too hot so I stopped. The rest I just went over the factory weld. How far do you guys weld them? I'm talking about the snout on the other end of the planetary and the base you can see in your picture.

So you weld both sides of the planetary on the gear set? Or just the factory welded side? I've had them come out with the factory back side weld broke. I can't remember if I redid the factory side but the fillet was tigged. You also need to clearance the carrier sometimes at the bushing because it will interfere with the tigged fillet weld.

Not trying to high jack your post but does any sell or make the wide 2 inch a band They are available but you usually need to supply a 2" core, they are pretty much dried up.
