Glad I wasn't the one to post this .. Herb was a very private guy and many on this board probably had no idea he was fighting cancer. It was a huge battle I won't go into the details but I can assure you guys he fought it with everything available to him !
I spent as much time with him as I could and am still deeply saddened by his passing . He was a great man . A family man and a dedicated employee . He loved mopars and his knowledge of the car hobby was amazing. He treated me like family even to the point of my son going to SFO to stay with him and his family .
Herb helped me with countless part scores and vehicle purchases .. Storing them and sometimes fixing them up . We all knew the end was near but for some reason it still hurts as much as if it were sudden .
I did manage to get Herb to come to Nova Scotia and stay for 9 days . We had a blast sadly he never got return . Herb met a who bunch of us Canadians over the years and any friend of mine was a friend of his .
Rip Herb

Wow...very sorry to hear. Did not have much interaction with him, but seemed very nice. Looks way to young to have left this earth.

When Sandy first told me [in confidence] of Herb's battle, my reaction to the news was as anyone else's would have been - to reach out. Herb's need to be a private man kept that from happening. I am greatly saddened by the fact that I never got to say good-bye, but Herb's wishes far outweigh my selfish needs. One of my fondest memories was [hopelessly] trying to keep up with him as he briskly accelerated down Woodley in Van Nuys. It was a good thing that I was unable to stay with him, as being beside a sideways GTX as it leaves rubber going into third gear is not a clever place to be. Godspeed, my friend.

Found out about Herbs passing yesterday and pretty much kept quiet to respect Herbs desire for privacy. I've known Herb since the mid 90s. Actually met him in passing(he was passing) on I-5 heading to Springfling. He caught my attention in that he was driving his 70 340 Swinger. After that weekend we kept up with each other via the net but I really got to know him when he brokered the deal for the 71 Charger I purchased. Even though we lived several states apart I always regarded Herb as a friend. He will be sorely be missed, especially by the tight knit group he ran with in his home town. Herb, my brother, I wish you a safe journey to the other side.

I remember several years ago he brought the X to Willow Springs to run around the track. Man the smile he had on his face after his first run. He was putting that Hemi through its paces.
Have to admire him, he didn't seem to let his situation get the best of him. Continued to work on that Max Wedge car.
I was in SF in April to Pu that 300 vert. Missed a chance to see him. Sandy flew in the day I headed south so I'm sure they had some quality time.

Yes, Herb was a very private person. He really didn't want to burden people with his disease, so most of it was kept pretty quiet. Rose (Herbie's wife) texted me Wednesday morning with a simple "He's gone". Rose was with him at home as well as his brother Ronnie and hospice. Ronnie told me he was at peace when he passed. Just faded out. So sad. I've known him since he was 17-18 years old. We have had a ton of great adventures together. He was like a brother. Ronnie is going to the funeral home today to work out the next step. Services and such. When I get the information, I will post it, for those interested. He will be missed. Rico

Many of the usual suspects [including Herb] were kind enough to make the long trek down in the Fall of 2012 to a drizzly show at the Embarcadero in San Diego.

I first met Herb when he came to my house to look at a '69 340/4sp Swinger that a co-worker was selling. Herb didn't buy it, but we had a great time. That was before he bought the '70 Swinger. Couldn't tell you the year, but Jeff Warkentin wound up buying it (speaking of guys who haven't been around here in a long time). Here's a video I found last night of Herb running the GTX at Sacramento in 2004. Not sure why he was nearly a second off his dial, but the car looked great anyway... https://youtu.be/adm4AyK_7FM

My condolences to his family. Too many people are being lost to this war on Cancer. I know and feel it all too well. I remember him from the board but never met him in person, judging by the posts people are leaving he was a well respected man and added his own groove to this hobby.

Yea Herb was really one of the good people who would help you just for asking. He would come over at night if need be and help work on an engine or give up a part if you needed it. I am not ready to say goodbye to him but the funeral is this Saturday. So i am sure it will be a sad day for all. Stu

Damn. I haven't been around here (Moparts) much in a while .. just found out about this today when I saw something on FB about it. Herb was a super nice guy, at least from all the interactions I ever had with him, that was my impression. Friendly, humble, helpful, and a great ambassador for the hobby. He gave me a ride in a legit '68 Hemi Dart once years ago in exchange for me taking photos of it for eBay... that was a bad ass ride, for sure. I only knew him very casually, and always had a great admiration and respect for him.. I am truly sorry for those who were close to him.

Hi all Haven't been here in years but seen a post on Stu's facebook (MidPenMopar) and had to come pay my respects. Some of you may remember me by the Mopars I built in my South Florida shop Green F6 A12 Six Pack Super Bee and the 65 Dodge Coronet A/FX drag car that was featured in Mopar Collectors Guide and Mopar Muscle magazines. Anyway I just wanted to pass on my respects and condolences to all who knew Herb and to those who personally were close to him. RIP SCATPK aka Herb This is my shop page for my new shop in Waterford Works,New Jersey if any of you want to check it out and keep in touch https://m.facebook.com/Rods-N-Restorations-227678330667315/?ref=bookmarks

Did some reminiscing last night with a few Moparts members from Canada about the good times we had with Herb. He sure was loved and will be missed by many people!
My heart is with you guys today. Think about the great life he led and the wonderful friendship he had with you guys and all that he touched throughout his life.

The funeral was done perfectly and we all got to express our feelings and love for him. Some light humor helped ease the pain but the sadness was thick in the hall. As herb would say, "It is what it is" Thank you Mark Brooks for that great shot of Herb! Stu

I'm on my way back home after the service and getogether at Herb's old warehouse. I had a rough day yesterday dealing with this loss ... Today was a bit better. My son James is going to stay around and help out his family for the rest of this week . I'm afraid my California trip will never be the same , but life goes on . God dam it I miss Herb ...

Great shot Mark!

Wow, I met a Herb at the Spring Fling a few years ago. He seemed like the kind of guy that took care of himself, it's a shame he got this horrible disease. he will be missed
