When installing the new seal, pack the garter spring with grease to prevent it popping off when pounding it in.

. Spend the bucks for a name brand. One hard tug destroyed my HF version on wife's T Bird pinion seal. Had to use a brass drift and hammer to get it out as no stores were open that evening.

IMO Lisle is a "name brand" plenty good enough for hobby use. Sure it is may not be snapon. matco, cornwell or mac etc quality but heads above HF which is at the bottom quality wise as you found out with some tools. I have used many Lisle tools over the years, sears used to sell some Lisle tools too.
