first you will need to stretch the opening in front

Width is where you run into problems, how wide is the tire?

What their saying is you will need to trim the
leading edge of your rear wheel wells a max of
2" (NHRA legal)and that will taper up into the
wheel opening.

You will probably also need to trim the wheel
lip or at least roll it in, sometimes this can
be done with a baseball bat rolled along the
tire to roll the lip in. Or have a body man
do it.

Of the "A" bodies the dart has the least
amount of clearance for bigger tires.

why not just mini-tub it so you can get a decent size tire under it?

We had a 28 x 9 MT slick under my sons Dart and it would rub in the front going thru the traps. Thats where you run into trouble if you run any taller then a 27" tire on a Dart. You can see by this pic that you have plenty of room in the rear of the tire so if you moved the rear back and inch the 28's would fit fine. We decided to run 26 x 9.5 Hoosier QTP tires (9" tread) because they fit with room to spare and work good with his 3.91's. But he could actually use more gear at the track as he was shifting his 400 at 6700. But its a street car and he dont want no more then the 3.91's because he drives it on the street. Ron

I ran 9x28x15 Phoenix slicks on my 69 Dart. Relocated the springs in .75" and used a 8" wheel with 4.5" BS. I did have to grind the wheel opening lip some. The opening remained untouched. Jim

i ran a ET street 28x11.5 on mine for a while with no cutting of the front corner, no spring-relo. it was close though....

15 x 8 welds w/ 4.5 bs.

if you moved the springs in and ran more backspace, you wouldnt have to worry about that quarter lip

theres a long thread on this on bigblockdart thats stickied at the top.

I run both a 275/60 and a 28 X 9 slick on my 69 Dart. The wheels are 15 X 8 with a 5.5" bs with the springs moved in 3/4" and the rear end moved back 1/2". I also had to trim the wheel well lips on both sides. The M/T ET Street Radials only have about 1/4" clearence on both sides and some times rub the springs.

If you modify the wheel opening, the fender is supposed to have the edge folded (rolled) or a 1/4 inch rod welded to the edge to eliminate any sharp surfaces that could cut the tire.

I run a 28x9 M/T et drag on a Centerline 8 1/2" wheel. The car is a stock body 1970 Dart. I have the 3/4" relo kit and the rear is spaced back 3/8" with aluminum blocks. Works great!

I'm getting ready to move my rearend back 3/8 also and use aluminum spacer plates.where did you find the correct spring hanger studs that are 3/8 longer than stock?

I used an E-body front spring mount on mine, it moved the wheel back enough to center the wheel in the wheel well . Mine is also mini tubbed but I have a 29 1/2 tall tire on there
