Situation:
416 stroker small block, 458 hp on dyno, aluminum heads, headers. 190 degree thermostat, Mezeire electric water pump, 26 inch Be Cool aluminum radiator, 50/50 antifreeze mix. Less than 100 miles on motor, 16 inch electric fan on outside of radiator on a shroud pulling air from engine compartment.

Took it out for a run Sunday, ambient temperature 96 degrees and within 20 minutes temperature gauge went to 210 and stayed for a while then started to creep up. Thinking the following:
-Engine still a little tight should wait for a while for things to loosen up.
-with just a 16 inch opening for the fan and the shroud covering most of the radiator I made a mistake and should have used twin fan set up or remove shroud and stick with 16 inch fan. Car ran great back in January with no overheating, Switch to EVANS cooling solution? Any help greatly appreciated Thank you!

16 inch electric fan on outside of radiator on a shroud pulling air from engine compartment

That is your problem. You are trying to pull air out of the engine compartment with a fan on the outside.

You need to put the fan inside and pull air INTO the engine compartment.

They say there are no such thing as a stupid question.
They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.

Or have the fan outside the radiator PUSH the air through the radiator and into the engine compartment.

The natural flow of air hitting the front of the vehicle as it moves forward is to pass through the radiator and into the engine compartment. If you are trying to pull the air forward through the radiator, it is meeting the air that is naturally flowing in the other direction. The result is the radiator is probably not seeing any or almost no air flow as the vehicle moves forward. Its a wonder it stayed that cool for that long! Gene

I would suggest a 7 blade rigid fan with a MP thermal clutch fan spaced halfway into a fairly wide schroud. other than that I am assuming your timing/mixture/pulley ratio are in the ballpark

Yep, I just realized after my post what I did. Duh! I will reverse the airflow and try it the correct way. Thanks for pointing that out!

Personally, I'm not a big fan of "pusher" fans. I much prefer "puller" type unless you are extremely space-limited.

Fan needs to be in the engine compartment pulling air from grille.

Pusher fans work, they are just not as efficient as a puller fan mounted under the hood. That, and they hang out there where everyone can see them and complain about them. Gene

A pusher fan in a shroud which is covering much of the radiator will NOT be as effective as a pusher without the shroud. If you're going to stick with a pusher then remove the shroud... otherwise put the fan on the engine side of the radiator with the shroud like it should have been done in the beginning.

Once you get the fan sorted out If you still have a problem it may be time to work on the water pump. The electric setups are great for drag racing and can cool the engine between rounds with battery charger to help. For street use, I believe a mechanical pump, preferably high volume, works a lot better with more flow at speed.
