Not sure anyone has as of yet..Although I think there are a couple of guys working on them.

There is an aluminum block available that will allow up to 430+ ci. The main problem with the R5P7 seems to be lack of torque for drag racing..the added cubes/stroke would be the fix. I think thats why alot of guys end up selling their R5P7 projects after a while.

A turbo or two would add some torque.

according to the engines Ive seen for sale 550ft. lbs of torque and 830 h.p. That's pretty good for 358 ci. That plenty of torque to get you moving.

We don't have any experience with a P7 in drag racing----yet. We are building a nostalgia FED with a 358" P7 for this year. But, this engine is going in a 1300 lb. car.

We have run the P7 on oval track(dirt) since 2006, we like it on dirt in limited torque applications. The 358" P7 does seem to have more torque than a comparable W8 headed 358" but not a great deal more.

The problem is the R5/P7 engine was designed and built around a 2.25" main journal---and enlarging the main journal may be difficult. So, longer stroke cranks may not solve the torque problem reliably.

Enter the Ernie Elliot aluminum block. He wanted a taller deck block that would accept longer strokes reliably---this was needed on the dirt tracks---so he financed the building of them. They are beautiful pieces! And three years of racing have not yielded any major problems. All it takes to get one is a call to EEI in Dawsonville, GA---I am sure they take plastic! I understand he has about 30 aluminum engines out in rotation.

Didn't some of the NASCAR guys take there cars to a drag strip and they ran real close to what they should have based on HP and weight?

In a dedicated drag car set up for there power band they would be fine, and a cheap way to get 900hp

Im really surprised more are not trying them, they seem easy to understand and the parts are cheap for what they are, on top of the big flow heads ive a set of unported heads...and wonder if one could get one to live a bit with a plated car????

I dont think my liberty box will like this motor but time will tell.

All I need to find is a machine shop to do the block work and im good.

These are some heavy heavy blocks... this was mocked up to move...Ive 95 percent of the parts needed, so far so good.....and I hope comp can work over one of the cams ive got for my needs.

I think there is also a fear of the unknown with these things too. I was guilty of it myself, but dealing with guys (Rick Liuzzo) who have experience with them certainly helps.
I am looking forward to getting my deal finished, I just have to work out what I am going to put it into

AL....

Isn't Ellijay just "down the road" from Dawsonville?

If you cant find one on this site, Arrington may be a good choice.
