Hi Guys,

as you might know (from anither threat), my Dad's 360 with TF 904 was missing the kickdown-linkage and was stalling in D.
Now I installed a kickdown cable, new fluid, new filter and adjusted the bands. Both to 72 lb/inch (about 8,1 Nm) and then 2 1/2 out.
Now the car drives and shifts really good. Far better than before.
Now it stalls in reverse. But not from the beginnig. Maybe it has to do, if it is hot or not.
When I put in D it shifts in good. Not to smooth not to tight. When I shift from reverse in D (quick) it shifts very hard.

I have to admit, that we put in too much fluid first but drained the excess.
But I drove 1 km with too much fluid. And it was far too much.
After changing we refilled 5 Liters because it seems, that that was the amount that we drained. Maybe it was too much before.

I now loosened the front band an additional 1/4 turn. Didn't do much. Maybe it is even a bit worse.
Also I think that the car might had that problem before. But not always. The car is not driven very often by my dad, so I can not tell for shure.
Do you guys have any advise?

I forgot to mention that the engine stalls in reverse, when I am holding the brake. If I let it go, it rolls backwards.

Are you sure you don't have a tuning problem rather than a trans issue?

It's not a trans problem, it's a tuning problem.

When in Reverse the trans line pressure increases dramatically and the extra load of the pump can cause a poorly tuned motor to stall. Also, misadjusted TP cable (if it's Lokar it's probably misadjusted) can exacerbate the problem with the R to D shift.

About the hard shifting I must admit, that I messed up.
I got the information, that almost every stock 904 has the single band low-reverse band, that has to be turned back 2 1/2 turns. I now learned that that is mostly the case in 6 cylinder 904s. The V8 have the three part band wich has to be turned back 3 1/2 to 4 times.

With the tuning problem, I think you are right. My dad told me that a friend of him was screwing around with the carburetor.
It is a thermoquad on a 360. Are there any specific O2 values and rod sizes I should aim for.
Since I rebuild my TQ fairly well, I could rebuild this one to. It was quite fun. But I have to order the correct parts from the US.

Thank you guys for your help.
