My red cap repo battery has finally died. I plan to pick up a new one at Carlisle. I see several vendors have them. Are they all the same so it's just a matter of price? Should I pre order?

I think there is 2 companies repopping them, with many vendors selling them. So I guess you have 2 choices. I can't think of the names thou. Maybe others will chime in.

From what I can find out there are just two companies actually making them. You can tell which one by the price and availability. The best one is from Antique Auto Battery and they run around $320 counting the shipping. They do not make the battery until they have an actual order so the battery doesn't set around on a shelf. They other one usually sells for around $220 or so. When you are shopping, ask who make the battery.

An alternative is to do this:

If you don't want to do this, someone would probably want your core to do this mod.

Dig it out now before, acid goes inside. What a neat trick to put the small battery inside.

Wow, this is a really great idea. All I need to do now is to find an original or repro case like that. Or, rob a bank and get a repro one that works. lol

Anyone know how the repops were made. Is there just a case over another battery?

I'm not 100% sure, but mine don't look like they have a case over another battery. I have one with the old style removable caps, and I can open up and see each cell and acid/water level inside..

I have a two year old Turbo Start redcap that I bought through a member here for $225.00. It won't hold a charge anymore. I just bought a redcap from Antique Auto Battery in Ohio ($320.00 shipped). So far, so good. Not to mention, it is quite a bit lighter in weight!

I have a Turbo Start Red cap going strong for 6 yrs now. This is the AGM type, not wet cell. I keep a Battery Tender on it during storage.

Like the others when I was looking for a (yellow cap) battery there seemed to be two choices, one a little cheaper than the other. However, the battery from Antique Auto Battery had 100 more cranking amps so to me that was the better battery and worth the extra money. I have had no issues with any of the Antique Auto Batteries I have purchased over the years.

Just like many of you I have spent a small fortune on these batteries over the years.Best bang for the buck for me is Costco! $77.10 for a Interstate 42 month no questions asked Warranty, who could ask for more? Peel all the lables off, wipe it down, and hit the key.
