I have only had this 07 a couple of weeks. It is a clean, original one owner truck I got at a dealer. A weird thing it does on occasion, is the factory alarm (horns) goes off when I open the door while the engine is running. One morning, I could not stop the blaring horns doing anything like starting the engine, locking and unlocking the door with the key, etc. It finally cycled and shut itself off after my brain was frazzled from the constant honking.

I found the buried horns, pulled out the fender liner, and unplugged them. Today I messed with it and got the alarm to set off again, of course no horns blaring, but the lights were flashing. It does it when the truck is running, put in park, open the door and take my foot of the brake. With the door open, once my foot gets off the brake.....it goes off. When I close the door, hit the brake to get it out of park and put it in gear.....it stops. Fortunately, it does not affect the engine running. Totally bizaare. I posted this on the CTD forum and over 300 hits but no responses. Any Moparts techs have a clue what is going on?

No help on that but my '06 scared me the first time I was backing under my 5er. I had it in reverse and opened the door to look back and the horn started honking like the alarm was going off. shocked Shut the door and all was fine again. Got me once or twice more until I started to remember NOT to open the door while in reverse. grin

Searching all over the net, I have heard of guys having the horns blow while backing up. This issue is tied in with the brake and door switch somehow. If it goes off, I just hit the brake pedal and it stops. Take my foot off the brake with the door open, and it sets it off again. Really aggravating.

Well, thanks to a member on the Cummins forum, I got it fixed. He said the dealer probably reflashed the ECM as a "safety feature" and cannot be reversed. He had the same issue and since it also is tied into the seat belt he unplugged it and looped a wire into the truck side, tricking it to think the belt is attached. I just clipped the wire on the belt side and soldered them together. No more alarm going off and as an added bonus, no more seat belt ding if the belt is not attached.
