Just wondering if there is anything out there now that compares to this head. Must be iron.

It's the iron version of the 440-1....and it's HEAVY iron.

I had a chance to buy a dirt cheap NIB set, but after picking one of them up, i opted out.

Your kidding. I called there yesterday to price a new set. They gave me a price but she didnt know how much for 2.25 intake option. Told me to call back today. Ours are cracked between valve seats.

I bet you can find a used set. They are so heavy, I am sure others who bought them then upgraded to aluminum later. DAMHIK.
if you do find a set, and need 2.25 intake valves, let me know. I will let go of the seven valves I have for half of retail. Very low use, maybe 250 runs, one valve job on them.

They have a reputation for cracking, unfortunately.

I tried getting a couple of sets about two years ago for some tractor pulling guys.
There were none to be had, and at the time, Russ told me they were having a hard time finding a foundry that was willing to do a small run of them(like 20 heads).
Apparently, they are not fast movers for Indy.

As far as the cracks go, have them pressure tested. If they don't leak, just keep running them.
In some of the oval track classes, Dart iron SBC heads crack between the seats very often. The guys just keep running them........ No problems.
