The power steering return fitting on the stock 5.2 Grand Cherokee pump is right under my battery tray - too far under to just trim a notch in the tray. I lost it first when I blew a motor mount, second yesterday when I was jacking my engine and forgot about that issue.

I could just JB it back on (again) but I'd rather relocate it away from the tray. Would I be better off plugging the side and drilling a new hole in the back of the reservoir, or putting a hole in the cap and feeding a tube down under the fluid level? There is a baffle inside that keeps me from seeing what's going on in the bottom. Is it just the pump inlet or do I risk hitting anything important inside?

This in a stock application or an engine swap?

If a swap, relocate the battery?

They say there are no such thing as a stupid question.
They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.

This is a swap into a 67 Coronet wagon. I'm not planning on relocating the battery since I don't really have a rear firewall and the car is 99% street use.

so I guess it depends on what is easier for you.
the van power steering bracket will pull it in towards the engine.
it then won't be covered by the tray.
you have to swap the idler pulley with the 5.7 hemi one and then the belt size is correct again for a 5.9 magnum belt. but I forget which one.

Go to the junkyard and find another pump with the return line in a different spot and swap the can out on your pump. Pump can be off a GM or Mopar.
