Might be leaking out of the shifter seal.

Every seal has been replaced except the shifter seal, have had 2 different shop work on it and it still leaks. I finally sealed the filler tube and put the new pan on it and it all most stopped but now it is leaking bad again. I know I got it a little over full but I didn't want to remove the pan so I drove it some and I thought it might have been blowing it out the vent. It shows to be a pint low now and seems to have slowed down. gonna drive it a couple hundred miles today so I'll see what it does. I am tired of the leaking

it is a known leak point.

Very easy to do too, took me less than 15mins. If you want to know how, I can post pictures.

Does the shift shaft seal sit proud of the case on top? In other words, can you use something larger than the OD of the seal to install it and still have it seat in it's recess?

I would suggest pin pointing the leak(s) before chasing your tail.

In your OP you state the trans was "rebuilt". Anybody who rebuilds a 727 and doesn't replace EVERY seal isn't really rebuilding it. Demand that whoever did the work replace the shift shaft seal at no charge.

Chances are, if they didn't replace that seal, they probably didn't replace the rear band lever pivot pin O ring either.

this will let you do it in the car. one to pull it, and one to push it back in.
you need a big c-clamp to use both.

iagree

I will also add that the 'full' rebuild kit I got for my 727 didn't come with the shifter seal. That's probably what happened at your trans rebuild shop. Never the less, it is part of a rebuild and they should install it for you no charge

The dipstick o ring and selector shaft seal are are common leak points. Another leak point that is commonly overlooked is the pivot pin for the L/R band lever. I have seen a lot of people "rebuild" these transmissions and not replace it. They will just remove the strut and flip the lever out of the way to take the servo out without replacing the o ring. To most it will look like the pan is leaking when fluid is actually coming out of the L/R pin hole in the rear of the case.

No need to remove the transmission.
