Is this a valid casting number? I think its a 48 degree head (47cc chamber) but cant find any intel on it.

Looking at a complete R block 365" asphalt circle track motor to maybe use as the foundation for a turbo motor devil

Thanks!!

Not sure on the part number, but they did make a 48 degree version of the W2. The dead give away is the pushrod clearance hole cuts thru the intake face.

Like we talked about on the phone... those are
the race W-2 heads.. I think all the casting
numbers are the same(I'm down in Texas so I cant
look at either set of W-2 I have to see the casting
numbers).. I cant see in the pic if the intake wall
is notched for the PR.. I have a set of 59* that
have the notch in the intake wall for the PRs... the
race head and the econo are basically the same other
than the econo has the cast in shaft stands.. the race
head has them milled off... they make a long and short
valve for them also... the normal long valve uses a 2"
spring height.. as to the intake like we talked about..
a measurement would be needed to see if it would work

Thinking Turbo/EFI with a custom sheetmetal Top...maybe

Stef,

Probably going to pull at least one head, more curious about the Chamber CC.

It's 365 cube and allegedly 11:1, that would infer (assuming flat top 'spec' pistons' it would have a small closed chamber head.

Allegedly the 48 degree heads flow better than the 59's, was that due to a smaller pushrod bulge or is it also a different (15 degree) valve angle?

Jegs still lists a 48 and 59 degree W2 on their website. I was trying to find the PT number you had listed but no luck.

What he shows it the casting number... those arent
really what anyone shows normally... I think they
have the same casting numbers on a LOT of the W-2
stuff.. I had one econo and race head.. they both
had the same casting numbers... I cant say if both
the 48* and 59* start out as the same casting or not
but with the small changes they could

We'll snap some pics once we get the head off.

Anybody got anything on the 48 vs 59 Head flow and why the 48's are better OOTB?

You mean besides the fact that the pushrods aren't going off in all directions?

More in that I thought the 48's flowed better, believe me I know about the pushrod angles!! I never had 48's before, after seeing what 48 degree roller cam blanks can cost, I'm beginning to remember WHY!

I recently got rid of a set of 47cc W2s that were for 48° with a 15° valve angle. Part number is P5007708AB but the casting number is P4532693. The latest version of W2s had revised ports (larger bowls and reduced pushrod pinch) but I do not know if the changes were across the board or only on the 15° valve angle heads.

That's probably them, it's easy to get 3's and 8's and even 9's confused with those castings, I haven't seen them but I'm sure the big Jesel baseplate doesn't help seeing it clearly either.

Just a follow up, we pulled the head and it's a 693 48 degree and it's definitely a 48 degree R block. Looks like a steel crank 3.58" 340 main with H beam rods and the bores are 4.03". Good news, it has at least a couple overbores left in it and it may hone fine where it's at.

The bad news, the Heads are Open chamber frown but for some reason the chambers look smaller than the last pair of W2's I put on the 360 based 440. Were there 2 sizes of Open chamber W2's? May have been milled I suppose but we're still digging into it. Ports look untouched and the intake is the MP stock looking 4 bbl dual plane.

also for some reason (I suppose in an effort towards saving 2 1/2 whole oz on the 220 pound block), they chose to mill the top "extra" row of head bolt holes out of the block....why would anybody do that?

That is my favorite chamber. I don't care for that closed chamber deal they have.

I don't know why every one gets all spun out on that chamber. It SHOULD make more HP than the closed one.

I'm not sure why they milled off the upper row of head bolts.

EDIT: do not mill the chamber down to close it. That is a sure HP killer.. And it makes the head weak.

Just because you think it won't make it true. Horsepower is KING. To dispute this is stupid. C. Alston
