Any chance to having them posted to the Tech Archives? That would be a good place to put a 1:1 PDF or JPG file that could be downloaded by all interested parties.

I have the MP P4876412 templates for the small block cast iron swirl-heads. The instructions call out castings 308 & 576, however, I used them pretty successfully on my 596 castings. Let me know if you want the instructions, as the methodology to follow/apply the templates may be the same? For that matter, if anyone else wants these post in the thread and I'll upload the files, they are JPG images, although a bit large at about 3.4Meg each...so maybe attachement might not work...
Now, speaking of porting templates, does anyone have W2 templates??? LOL...was there such a thing ever made?

Fwiw, regarding the BB templates....., I had a member here send me a set of stage v heads he template ported using the stage v specific templates. He also cleaned up the entire runner a bit. These heads also had 2.14/1.81 valves installed. The result was probably the most time intensive set of 245cfm big block heads around. A decent basic bowl blend and valve job, with some very minor short turn blending will get a set of 346/902/452 heads into the 260 range for a fraction of the time investment. Without some reworking of the short turn, you're only going to get so much flow out of those heads....... And frankly, that's not going to be a very big number. On the other hand, the templates will keep you from taking too much out of an area you shouldn't.

I sent Dwayne a set of 906's i bought that were template ported, luckily with stock valve sizes still, figuring they would take less time to port because someone else had already started ...and save me a few bucks ... wrong ...
running up my post count some more .

I've said it many times before...... The best bang for your porting buck on a BB are the 346/902/452 heads, especially if it's your first time. The MP instructions are to not mess with the short turn, and on a 906/915 intake port you're going to be lucky to get near 250cfm if you adhere to those instructions. I think the reason they tell you that is because it's really easy to get it wrong. The flatter floor on the newer style intake port will benefit from a mild blending from the floor into the bowl. On a 906 head, that gets you almost nothing. It's much easier/quicker to get the newer heads to flow 255-260 than the 906/915(or stage v for that matter).

Was thinking the same thing cos after all, that was a LONG time ago and lot`s has changed in every aspect of hot rodding. FWIW my Vicroy ported 906`s went 278-221 iirc and pushed my junk to 10.40`s and was my daily driver for years..............
