Does anyone know if a 70 Hemi B-Body automatic come with a trans cooler? I know they did for 68 and 69, but I've seen some 70's with and some without. Does the axle ratio determine if it should be included? I'm just trying to determine which is correct.

Thanks, Bill

General rule - Yes, your 70 HEMI B-body automatic should have a external trans cooler. Although it's possible some were made without???

like FC7 said, it should have

it wasn't dependent on axle ratio

Even my 3.23 gear 70 Hemi Challenger and 70 Hemi Charger had a cooler so I think it's safe to say you would have one

Reproductions are available, for a great deal check with our own Terry McCann.
The 66-70 B-bodies were all pretty similar with differences in the mounting brackets.

Yes they all came with coolers. Gear doesn't matter

70/71 E Bodies and 1971 B Bodies take the same automatic transmission cooler, that being the rectangle cooler. 66 to 70 B Bodies take another style of automatic Transmission Cooler the square type that was posted by BS27 with a picture above. The differences between the 66-70 would be in the body styles with different brackets on the square automatic coolers. Not sure how many different brackets there are for B Bodies. I would say a set of brackets for 66/67 B Bodies, then 68,69,70 B Bodies, and a different set of brackets for a Daytona and a Superbird and then maybe different brackets for 68,69,70 Chargers.

Maybe some one knows if a 1968 Hemi A Body with an automatic got a Hemi automatic transmission cooler.

They are not all the same. 66-67 coolers had straight fins and 68-70 had wavy fins........so it's more than just brackets that can be different

The various cooler brackets used.
Inner rad support bracket ( on right )is the same for all.
I have seen some 67's with the 68 style vertical rad support bracket.
Should read Daytona and 68-70 Charger R/T

Does someone sell the brackets if you just wanted to add a cooler for an Ebody? Looks like you would need the cooler lines too.

Just as an FYI, the pass. side mount on the 68-69 hemi auto chargers were not the same as a daytona. Since the grill support on the 69 was removed to install daytona front end, there is nothing to bolt to, the cooler would flop in the wind.
On the few hemi auto daytonas that I have seen, creative bent a strip of approx. 1" wide sheet metal and crudely welded it to the underside of the top rad crossmember, this strip hung down beside the pass. Side of the cooler and was fastened to the cooler where the 68-69 oem bracket was secured.

'70-'71 ebody cooler does not need separate brackets. The unit mounts as is to the car.

Did some of the very early Hemi E-bodies get built without this trans cooler?

The only documented Hemi E-body that came without a cooler I am aware of, is the red/red 1970 HemiCuda convertible that Suloff owned in its early years.
Not saying there may not have been others.
