My window regulator for a 67 Belvedere convertible is majorly dragging and needs rebuilt. It is the middle rivet that holds the 3 pieces of the regulator together. Who rebuilds these? Its for the rear drivers side.

Soak it in a degreaser to get all that crud out. Then soak it in something like Evaporust. Rinse and dry. Spray the whole thing with stainless steel paint. Spray the spring and pivot with Wire Rope lube (this stuff goes on like water then thickens up like thin grease).

The front part of the regulator doesn't move forward and doesn't hold the top/front part of the glass in proper place. Very sloppy especially when I close the door. On the top, its quarter glass on door glass- if all windows are up. Will the above suggestion work?

I am going to try what Stanton suggested, if it doesn't work, who rebuilds them?

I soaked mine in Evaporust....and the spring on one blew up...

I can vouch for what Stanton said.

I degreased and cleaned the regulators in my A12 on the cheap. Even got away without having to paint.

Whats needed:

1 can of cheap $1 store oven cleaner (depending on grease build up)
Meangreen spray leaner for the $1 store. (wesley tire cleaner also works awesome)
A few sink/kitchen brushes from the same store.
1 gallon of Evaporust
1 storage container (like the clear ones you use to store clothing in) $5 at the $1 store.

I degreased with the meancleaner and brush a couple of times, washed down. Then mixed some ER with some water and soaked for 30 or so minutes. Checking often to not remove any factory coatings. Scrubbed a little with a plastic kitchen brush. Rinsed, and sprayed with a rust preservitive. I used some products for Shafco called Rust Veto.

I noticed that with spring steel ... it doesn't like acid. But the spring still had to have been pretty rotten !!

Evaporust isn't an acid, so I find it hard to believe it actually caused your spring to blow up. Its a process of "chelation". I agree with Stanton, it had to be in pretty rough shape and about ready to break.

I think too many people put too much effort into restoring pieces that will never be seen by human eyes again. Keep in mind the factory built most things to last through a warranty period of 5 years and that was it! Duplicating factory finishes on items like these is not necessarily a good thing from a longevity standpoint even though the parts are likely to never see moisture again !! With that in mind, when I got my regulators all cleaned up I sprayed them with "cold galvanizing" which, according to various literature, could be subjected to many hours in a salt bath with no negative affect to the part. And now they will literally be "out of sight" and "out of mind".

Just my 2 cents ...

Oh yea... they were pretty bad... so bad that I will buying new ones..

Quick update:
I called Victor (real nice guy) and he said that he doesn't rebuild the actual mechanics for regulators. He told me to call SMS hood hinge repair. They don't (SMS) rebuild them either. I emailed Resto Ricks (another good guy) and he doesn't rebuild them either. I called Roger Gibson's and he doesn't rebuild them either... A couple of the people I spoke w/said that a lot of the parts in regulators aren't available...
I will try Stanton's idea once it warms up and hope it works.
