Anyone following these heads knows how "difficult" it has been to get Edelbrock to actually make them. I have been the staunch bitcher, contacting them twice monthly for almost a year. My "persistence" finally got to Eddie L. who personally went and took pictures of my heads being run and then shipped out!! Yep, finally getting them. This one is done. I ordered a bare set with CNC porting. So they should be in your hands now. Could you provide better pictures for us?

Well, not yet. I have cursed Edelbrock for over a year, and now I gotta sing their praises. Rick has been phenomenal on keeping me up to date and discussing the heads with me. I didn't mention this part before, because didn't want to jump the gun, but it's well underway. I had talked to Crower about making the rocker stands and talked with Rick about offering a part number with the stands milled and holes for the rocker stands. Crower is right down the street from Eddy. Rick went over and got with Kerry at Crower, and they went ahead and milled and drilled my heads at no charge. He then personally dropped them off to Crower to have the rockers made. So, no, not in my hands, but Crower should be done with them mid January and everyone has the option to order heads ready for Crower stainless rocker shaft, and Crower will have the shafts ready. Win, win for me and pretty much everyone else wanting to pushrod oil and use the best stainless shaft rockers available. I'm sure Jesel and T&D will have shafts available as soon as they get a head with the stands milled off, for those who prefer aluminum.

For all this time it has real p.i.s.s poor chamber they rolled the valve angle to 16* and put 1980s chamber in it. Are you referring to how concave the transition is from the seat into the plug-side of the chamber, vs. how today's typical "race head" has a straighter, or even convex, shape coming off the seat, and the lack of quench area on the plug side compared to most current small-block wedge heads?

In a word yes. And with clean sheet design I think they could have done better with plug location. I guess I am biased when I look at heads all I think about is NA power. In a power adder deal this chamber would work good. Plug could be moved back some but still will work well

That is cool, I'd like to see some pictures of the Crower rocker arms when you get them. I haven't seen anyone use Crower rocker arms for a long, long time.
I tried to work with Crower on a deal a few years back and gave up. I didn't have the stamina to deal with their confusion! As far as I know, Crower doesn't make any shaft setups for Mopars. They are what most of the Chevy/Ford guys have been running the last 4-5 years. As spring pressures keep going to the stratosphere, aluminum rockers just won't take the abuse. Most of the Chevy racers I know have switched to the Crower stainless shafts, sacrificing a small amount of weight for durability. Definitely will post up pics of everything when I get them.

After working on the Gen 3's for the last 10 years, 34-36 degrees of timing feels like working on an antique. I guess we'll see how much timing it wants to determine how efficient the chamber is. You'd think they could just copy an LS style chamber, but not sure if that would work with the port layout.

These heads use a offset intake, so if using stock style shaft rockers, Hughes Engine is the only one making them at the moment for this head.
As far as pistons go, you'll have to clay them and measure. Too many variables such as cam timing, power adders, etc. Pretty much goes with any engine your building. I would never put a non stock engine together without knowing piston to valve clearance, regardless if someone told me it would work.

Yes, two degrees is a recut piston must. Learn from a guy who has had two engine builders screw this up and destroy the heads.
Remove both Intake and exhaust valve. If shortblock is apart install one piston, rod on crank. Buy dowel rod the size of your valve stem. Sharpen one end. Rotate crank to 10° short of TDC. Either 350 or 10 will be at pointer. Secure crank shaft. Slide dowel rod through valve stem. Tap with hammer making mark on piston. Repeat for other valve. You can now use caliper to measure valve relief allowing at least .050" on sides and .100" to allow for piston rock and travel. Most any fly cut jig has reference for valve angle. Once this is done you can reassemble and check with Clay. I still check this mechanically at 10° and 350° by overriding rocker arm with dial indicator on retainer. This is necessary to insure that expensive top end you just purchased doesn't trash everything.
I too this opportunity because folks were asking questions that make me nervous.

Still at Crower. They said mid February before they have the shafts done and they are back to me. Upside is, you can order a set with milled stands and Crower shaft rockers next month!!
