So not to high jack another thread going on I started this one. I had a question about dates on a 727 that I have. It is part numbered for some 67- early 68 440 and 383 HP applications.
The part number stamp is H2801541 dated 3351 126.
The 10,000 day date looks to be Sept. 30th 1970.
So would this just be a service replacement trans or something? The main case casting date is 1966.
I have also noticed most 727 trans that are dated for the cars in that time frame have a PK for the assembly plant and this one has an H. Those are my main questions and thanks in advance.
Just looking to better understand the situation.
Matt

I want to know too. Maybe the calendar is being read wrong? just asking. I've got about 25 727s if someone cares to come over and decipher them.. Some of those have 7 digits instead of 8.

Chrysler had millions of transmission cases cast so I wouldn't be surprised to find a 66 cast trans with a 1970 ASSEMBLY date stamped on it .

Does it have a VIN stamped on it ?

Cast in 66 , I assume it does not have the raised VIN pad on the right side of the bell ?

running up my post count some more .

At the point they needed to have the pad they probably pushed all the leftover earlier cases into the stack for REPLACEMENT trans cases.

I'm trying to remember if I have ever seen/had a trans with the vin stamped into the case without a pad on the side ?

I'm pretty sure some 68's are stamped on the top of the trans/engine mating surface, readable when assembled by looking down the front of the firewall.
Not sure if all plants did this, and if only certain motor/trans combos.

I have a 67 GTX with original drivetrain, 66K original, bought from original owner. It came from St Louis plant, 927 SPD. the trans has a similar stamp to the one pictured above. H2801541 3395245. Maybe this is a common stamp from the H trans plant. This numbering that seemingly makes no sense, I have seen it previously on the same trans part number.

I would really like to know what the truth of the matter is on the date. I had a guy a few years back come to look at it for his 67 R/T, and did not want it due to the fact he didn't think the date matched up.
I would like to know the truth as well as I look for a 68 hemi Trans for my bee.

Anyone else with a 67? Please check the trans to see the numbers.

I Have seen this style of number several times. The car I have is a known original. I did freshen the trans and every piece with a date has 66 on it. It was never apart before.

Here's another example of a '67-'68 trans with a '72 build date. The only way the build date makes sense is to add a 2 in front of the stamped date, i.e. 2392 is 2-14-68. Note the difference in the stamp depth of the various characters. (the J, 5 and 0)

Adding the 2 in front would help make some since of the date I guess. It would change the date on my "541" trans to Dec.19 1967.
Here is another 67-68 trans from ebay that is from the "PK" assembly plant so they must be dated different as they have a 4 digit date on them. Guessing its a plant to plant thing?

Matt - Here are a few pics of the hemi trans in my 68 Road Runner. This is the original trans. One thing that that I notice is the "K" at the end of the part number.
PK2801544K 2413 0178
2413 = 6 March 1968
0178 = number sequence that day
My car was a Lynch Road build, 4 May 1968.
