Chrysler had millions of transmission cases cast so I wouldn't be surprised to find a 66 cast trans with a 1970 ASSEMBLY date stamped on it .
Does it have a VIN stamped on it ?
Cast in 66 , I assume it does not have the raised VIN pad on the right side of the bell ?
running up my post count some more .

Matt At the point they needed to have the pad they probably pushed all the leftover earlier cases into the stack for REPLACEMENT trans cases. I'm trying to remember if I have ever seen/had a trans with the vin stamped into the case without a pad on the side ?

I'm trying to remember if I have ever seen/had a trans with the vin stamped into the case without a pad on the side ? I'm pretty sure some 68's are stamped on the top of the trans/engine mating surface, readable when assembled by looking down the front of the firewall. Not sure if all plants did this, and if only certain motor/trans combos.

Here's another example of a '67-'68 trans with a '72 build date. The only way the build date makes sense is to add a 2 in front of the stamped date, i.e. 2392 is 2-14-68. Note the difference in the stamp depth of the various characters. (the J, 5 and 0)

It would change the date on my "541" trans to Dec.19 1967. Here is another 67-68 trans from ebay that is from the "PK" assembly plant so they must be dated different as they have a 4 digit date on them. Guessing its a plant to plant thing? Matt
