Is it necessary to go from 14 to 15 inch wheels to put disc brakes on a 62 dodge polara?

Depends on what brakes you use. Some with the smaller rotor will clear 14's.

no. if you use the 10 inch discs off an m-body, it clears the 14 inch wheels just fine.
I used them for a while till I swapped out to 15 inch rims and then up to the 11 inch disc's.
65 coronet, so same body basically.

The small discs are 10.87" in diameter and fit most 14" rims.

The large discs are 11.75" in diameter and will not fit a 14" rim.

Speaking of factory discs only.

They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.

Forgot. Must be getting Alszheimers. Should've asked or the OP stated what size discs he's using

Ya gotta remember that not all 14's are the same...some are disc brake spec and some not.
