Truck was fine for four years until a few months ago when we had a monsoon rain storm in August
Noticed moisture within the third brake light , and one of the bulbs burnt out . Found the drivers side rear storage comp wet with rain water
Seems to bee a common problem with the seal on the third brake light with all the research and truck forums . Got some self adhesive soft seal , and replaced the factory foam with soft seal rubber and thought I had her good to go
Went thru a few car washes today , and just happened to notice moisture in the rear comp. again . Pulled the third brake light , dry as a bone , didn't notice any water within the metal cab where the light attaches. Headliner has never been wet at all , not once
Have the electric rear sliding window , opened that up and was feeling around looking for moisture , nothing .
Truck has moonroof . Never an issue , like I said headliner is dry
Thinking about pulling the rear seats , Quad Cab , and get the garden hose outside and go to town . Anything else I should bee looking at ? I would think if that black antenna on the passenger side roof was leaking wouldn't the headliner bee wet ? Also noticed black weatherstripping on the roof that comes down to the rear window
Four years dry as a bone and now this mess . Truck only has 24,000 miles on it , leather interior sport model , still smells brand new , don't want it smelling like a moldy moisture mess
What am I missing here ? Or what area should I bee looking at
Thanx Scott

Remove the third brake light and coat the gasket liberally with RTV. Stopped the leak on my '98.

Is the truck garaged?? You have to remember that using a car wash is like having your car in a class 5 hurricane....
Make sure your drains are clear in your Moon roof, particularly if your truck is not garaged.. Should be able to find the drain tubes in the corners when sunroof is open.. Turn DOWN the pressure of your compressor and blow out the lines... Be my first task....
When and if you try to find a leak with a garden hose, 2 people, one inside one outside with hose..NO pressure, just let in run out of the hose.. Start at the BOTTOM of the cab area and work up, then up to doors, bottom of windows, cowl area, then tops of glass, then finally to the top of roof.. don't be in a rush....

Thanx Guys
Ford Truck - No
Silicone Third Brake Light , Thought About It , Glad I Didn't
Anyways Thanx Guys , Suggestions About The Rear Window Channels , And Garden Hose Etc.
Truck is always garaged , 99% of the time , taken care of like a piece of art , washed every time it sees salt in the winter , blah blah you get the picture
Worked on it all morning - At first the garden hose did absolutely nothing , Not even a drop at low pressure , different settings etc on the attachment
I said screw it and basically removed everything in the Quad Cab Rear Seat Area . Seats , Jute Padding , everything
Trust me I understand about the car wash high pressure , but living in WI during winter months , I live at the car wash anytime my vehicles get road salt or trailering to the U.P. for snow - So to say I am not going to use the car wash , not going to cut it
Anyways after removing everything and drying out the bottom jute padding , I went to town on the hose
High pressure and started at the moon roof Moved to the two roof channels Moved to the Roof Antenna Next Third Brake Light Got A Soaking
And finally blasted the rear window - Nothing until I hit the middle sliding glass
Its leaking on the sides , then works its way down to the bottom corners , and inside the channel where the cables sit for the electric motor , pools up and down the inside cab
Just started doing this within the last three months - Trust me it was ten times worse with that third brake light gasket , but zero issues there now since I put a newer soft seal gasket on
The seals around the sliding rear window look perfect , but why now ?
And like mentioned about the car wash hurricane - I get it , but it wasn't leaking before this summer
Whats the dealer going to doo if I bring it in - Just install the same seals ?
I have no idea how they even come out or install , like I said they look brand new - Is it something I can do myself ?
Or just live with it every time I wash my truck or heavy heavy rain - Is this a common issue with sliding rear window trucks ?

Was doing some research
Are there supposed to bee some kind of drain tubes inside that black channel where the cables run for the electric rear sliding window ?
Thanx Scott

Thanx. Looked briefly this morning and noticed two slits in the weatherstripping that surrounds the full window on the outside bottom of window
Will look closer this aft after work and see if that's the drain area. Man that would bee sweet if was that simple , if there plugged

If you look at your sliders the only way to prevent leaks is to allow the water to come into the sill, contain it, and drain it.... The way all sliding windows ( including your home) work..... Look for any crud in the sliding track.. IF you can remove the lower track do it first.. Should add, remove ONLY if simple to..Vacuum and wash out.. Doesn't take much to plug, just like your kitchen drain.... Is this a problem with dodge trucks?? The backglass on VW pickups sloped inwards ( the top was slanted towards the front of the truck) so if a slider was installed the bottom trough would fill up and drain INTO the cab ( coming over the top of the bottom sill).. Bad design to have a back sliding window on.. Just wondering how flat the back glass is on your truck??

Check the CHMSL. IIRC, there was an issue with those that caused leaks. Cant remember what the fix was though. Maybe the gasket?
Here's a good way to check for leaks - start the car, put the heater/blower motor on high and close all the windows. Get a spray bottle of soapy water and spray around the rear window and third brake light. If you see it bubbling somewhere, there's your leak.

Didnt get any responses , so I went to town last Tuesday already
There is actually three slots in the weatherstripping for drainage One under each pane of glass but there all connected anyways
Started by spraying the inside black slider channel with water bottle waiting for it to drain out - Well that never happened
So I vacuumed the water out , then got out the air hose and went to town with a rubber tipped nozzle
Honestly , I think its been plugged from day one , at the factory Black RTV - Took some cleaning , peeling back the outside weatherstripping , trying to figure out how everything worked/flowed sort of speak
Filled it back up with water and everything drained out those three slots under the windows
Honestly , really never noticed because I never drive the damn thing , sits in the garage , and then of course that one monsoon with the third brake light gasket leaking , and one thing led to another and another
So far so good - Thanx Guys !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
