thought i'd throw this out there.
bought this car a few months ago, only had to time to mess with it a little...things like plug wires, new plugs, new distributor, set timing, fan shroud...you get the idea.

motor is a 360 with magnum heads. supposed to be speed pro 116 flat top pistons. which if zero decked should put the compression around 10.6:1
the car is loud...manifolds, leaking a little, plan to put headers on it.

anyway, did a compression test on two cylinders because that's all i had time for. got to 190psi cold might've gone slightly higher if i kept cranking it. i think it only hit 3 times.

so...the cam. when i put a new distributor in i saw it's a purpleshaft cam.
previous owner mentioned all he could remember was .455 lift.

SO...long story short...does this cam sounds like the mopar p4452761 268/272 cam, 228/231 @.050 ????

Doesn't sound as lopey as my .484 Purple, you may be right.

That's a very mild cam... It sounds a little more choppy than I'd expect.

228/231 @.050 is pretty aggressive measured against the 268/272 "advertised" ramps. Some 228/231 @.050 cams have advertised durations of 282/290....so for the @.050 numbers it sounds (to my ears) close to a Comp 280 which is 230/230 @.050. In a 340SB or 383BB it will lope a bit more noticeably than it will in a comparable 360SB/440BB. A Crower 271HDP which is 226/234 sounds just like that when it's cut on 108. That MP is probably 110 in at 106 (like most off the shelf Comp FT Hydraulics). I'd say it's in the ballpark for a 10.5:1 360, how does it run? Sounds healthy to me. Good dynamic Compression on a good and square build will add DB to the idle regardless of the cam.

Cam in my 10.25:1 427" SBF Cobra is 232/237 @.050 sounds pretty similar (bigger than someone might think it is)

Yeah, it's ground on 110 LSA and has pretty large duration for the lift, typical of most MP cams. So it has a ton of overlap for the application.

It is the cam that MP used to build the hot 318 back in the day, the one with the "fully ported" 302 heads. I can't remember the final HP numbers but it was more than 330.

thanks streetwize, i haven't driven it much yet, drove it about 20 miles home. seemed to be real strong in the midrange rpms, didn't beat on it...wanted to make it home.

it's close to ready to drive, need to install the alt brackets from andyF on and that denso alt wired up.

i'm curious how this thing is gonna run on pump gas. i put a proform dist in it, 13* initial/33* total
has on old edelbrock 750 on it, and i think it has 2.94 gears.
need to put some miles on it and figure out if i want to make it more street/strip or more highway cruiser with big torsion bars/antiswaybars/good handling tires
