I have a 65 belvedere 727 . the numbers on trans say a 1968 model. Yet when I took mount off bolt holes on tailshaft were 4 inchs apart. Is it possible some mated a 65 tailshaft to a 68 trans? I had already ordered the special mount from schmacher.

If the trans is cable shifted and has a 4-inch bolt spread on the mounting pad it's a pre-66. The early and late tailhousings won't interchange.

What numbers make you think it's a '68? If the build date following the part number is '68 it's possible that a replacement trans was built at a later date.

It is a cable shift on an external lever. I ran numbers on trans came out as belonging to a 68 383.

The bolt centers on a '66 and later mount pad should be about 2 3/4".
