I'm going to be freshening up my 904 and also swapping the 4 disk drum to an A999 5 disk setup with associated parts.
Right now I have a narrow red lined flex band (I think with a 4.2 lever) and it seemed to work fine but I am going to be putting some more power thru it this upcoming year and don't know if I should upgrade to a solid or other friction material.
I know with the 5 disk drum, I could now use a wider A999 band but I was told to not use it since the lugs are offset and it causes the band to not apply straight.
Any thoughts??

90% race. I might take it to the local cruise or off to the parts store downtown but thats it.

I think with the tire and specific racing you do, that easing the 1/2 shift might be a good thing. Just my opinion, but I'd definately keep it in mind.
Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now, uh... Now you tell me what you know.

Thats what I am concerned about. The narrow red band was fine with my latest combo, a chirp on the track but that was it. I'm afraid kevlar might grab too harshly, perhaps a wide red band will hold more but not grab as quick. I just heard that the wide band can apply uneven due to the offset lugs so I figured I'd inquire.
I see three widths of band offered. 1.375 which is what I assume I have (std 4 clutch drum) and a 1.610 and 1.750.
Whats the difference in the 2 wider ones other than the width of course.

Chris I've been told Kevlar is fine for the rear band because nothing is spinning when it's applied , it can be a problem in the front location over time because it's stopping a spinning drum .

I am using a Cheetah VB with no low band apply so that band only works in Rev.
I did tear the tranny apart and noticed the KD band was discolored all the way around but biased to one side only. It's a flex band. This was with perhaps 50 passes and 300 street miles.
With more HP I'm sure I don't want to reuse the narrow red but will a wide red be enough improvement or should I try Kevlar?? More surface area with the wide red but won't it have less apply pressure for a given area??
Another 904 question but not band related...
The rear clutch pack, the one with the 4 thin non grooved clutches isn't a shifting clutch. Those things look brand new, no reason to change them this go around is there??

heat and slippage and its common for me to see the flex bands burnt more to one side like that I always assume its the fact that it is a flex band and dont apply even.
