is this a 'must have' if you are using 6 pack rods and a steel crank?? isn't neutral balance just that - neutral balance?

Have the assembly internally balanced and use a standard balancer. Aftermarket or factory

components were all balanced at a machine shop 25 years ago. engine has been assembled and running but the damper has slipped about 10 degrees over the years. i read the article on 440Source web site about this and they seem to say any balancer will work as long as it is for a steel crank.

If it has a 6pk balancer on it and it's been balanced then you need to replace it with another external balance balancer that is weighted the same.

iagree If it has a six pack balancer on it, then it is externally balanced. All the six pack rod motors were externally balanced from the factory and used a special balancer.
