Good afternoon! I'm switching my '70 Challenger 440 RB from the factory 4 speed to a Tremec 5 speed set-up. Currently I have a 10 1/2" clutch set-up, but the 5 speed takes an 11" clutch. So, my question is, is this the correct flywheel: RAM 1595, 143 tooth, internal balance. I assume the starter position is the same? Sorry for the dumb questions, just kind of confused! Take care!

10 1/2" and 11" flywheels are different. 10 1/2" is 130 tooth and 11" is 143 tooth starters. to go to an 11" from a 10 1/2" you need an 11" bellhousing and a 143 tooth starter. the 11" flywheel won't work in a 10 1/2" bell.

Hey there! Thanks for the reply. I should of stated, I do have the larger bell housing (it came with the 5 speed kit), so I should be good there. I did not know there was / is a different starter tho. I have a smaller, gear-reduction style starter now. Will it not work? It's hard to picture in my mind, but I would think the 143 tooth flywheel would be a larger diameter. Thanks again!

The flywheel size is bellhousing dependent, the size of the clutch is dependent on the pattern on the flywheel.

That said a 10.5 clutch pattern will accept a 10.95 SCALLOPED pattern Pressure plate which is basically an 11.0 clutch.

The smart thing to do , as it seems you finally did , was to contact the company you got the trans setup from and find out what you need.

Incorrect, there is no such thing as a 143 tooth starter. Chrysler had one basic starter design that fit everything from a /6 to a 440 6 pack and 70/71 Hemi, stick or automatic.

The starter is located by the bellhousing, the only flywheel/bellhousing combo that has a specific starter was used on the 172 tooth HEMI setup prior to 1970.

Dang I agree with John again.The board is going to blow up.As John said no starter for 130 and 143 wheels.Early hemis and real early cars had specific starters But the 130 143 are the same.Rocky

The real problem is that the larger bellhousing moves the starter into the exhaust manifold/header area. Stock starter fits, but the manifold will not bolt on afterward.
That is why the factory used the direct drive starter with no solenoid sticking out.
Currently some mini starters will fit.
