4.07" bore--4.250" stroke--268* at .050 x .560" lift Racer Brown solid flat tappet cam--11.75 to 1 CR--nicely ported 587 production cyl heads-- Victor 340 intake--1000cfm carb--1 3/4" hooker headers. Should make 1.6 HP per C.I. Actually ended up 442 C.I. because piston manufacturer made pistons for 4.07" bore instead of 4.06" bore, as I ordered a similar set for a 340 based engine at .030" over the same time I ordered pistons for this engine. 360 block for this project plenty thick enough to go .100 O.S.

Looks pretty. So, after you dyno it, log back in and tell us how close you came to that 707 HP. That should be a record for 587 heads!

I'm sure there are not many 440 c.i. sm blocks with 587 heads so I'm traveling through uncharted waters.

However the 418 c.i. engine in my Demon has been 9.68 at 136.XX mph. Weighs 3050lbs. Same head castings with a little less flow, with a slightly bigger camshaft and a little more squeeze, but 24 c.i. smaller. 670 +/- HP. 670/418 = 1.603 HP per C.I.

Will not put it on a dyno but the car will let me know. The "300" weighs 4000lbs and should put it solid in 10 second zone. 650 hp would make it run 10.70s, 700hp would be 10.40s. We will find out soon enough.

Well dog-gone-it, I think that is really something. Love it when someone can do that with old iron heads.

Whatever it makes thats a cool build, what do you feel your shift points will be with that cam? Could you explain the lifter valley mods?

Ive seen some heads like those go 290 or so and from my own exp. 420-440 inches might as well be 400 inches as the 420-440 area just cant breath enough, but ive been wrong before.

Nice looking car its going into as well.

Oil drainback. There is a 3/4" hole in camshaft thrustplate. Hard acceleration oil stays up top, anytime else, oil drains through the old lifter oil galley. Engine in "300" now,[408c.i.] has all the same junk. 20000+ miles, zero problems, Demon , same way, 1900+ passes, no problems.

6700/6800 shift. I will have to experiment as it may be better lower. Torque should be very good on this engine.

Oil control. Hard acceleration oil stays up top, anytime else, oil drains through the old lifter oil galley. Engine in "300" now,[408c.i.] has all the same junk. 20000+ miles, zero problems, Demon , same way, 1900+ passes, no problems.

"300" has already been 11.60s at 116mph with a 408 with a lot less porting and camshaft. Engine in car now makes around 525HP.

Be prepared for wrinkled 1/4 panels near the "B" pillar area unless you do something with the middle of the car ( cage / subframe connectors). You will definitely be in the NHRA mandatory cage range anyway.

Going for a 6 point roll bar as soon as it runs. Also boxing the leaf spring mounts and connecting frames. Full cage not needed until 9.99 and quicker

I ported a set of 915 J heads for a 422 ci stroker, used the MP 296 mechanical cam with Strip Dominator manifold, the torque was insane

I'm watching this with great interest, car looks nice
