Are there any problems with using a regular-sized(big) oil filter on a '70 383 stock build engine opposed to the half-sized(small)filter? Again, stock oil pump capacity and stock 402 oil pan, etc.

I'd suggest the largest wix brand filter that will fit

Wix #51515 fits. Should I add a little more oil than the standard 5 qt. in order to keep the dipstick on the full mark?

Yes, with the car level you want it full no matter how much capacity your choice of filter has. slightly adj the amt you add till you get there. the 5 qt figure is a nominal number

I like the idea of the larger filter and will be what I use. However, I seen on the WIX website the 51515 is listed for small blocks, 440 and 426 hemi. For the 383, they list the small-type 51068.

Thanks for the advice Moparts members!

515 fits with federal pump and manual boxes. 068 fits with saginaw pump.

I want my fair share

Small block filter will fit but hard to get off due to k frame. The big block sticks out past the k frame, making it easier to grab.
