Paid $150 for a 'high torque mini starter' from a Mopar friendly mail order speed shop. What I got looked identical to the starter that was on my v6 Dakota, same as my v8 Dakota.

You can get those cheap at any parts stores with a core exchange any day of the week.

I've also learned that speed shops have bills to pay and will charge what people are willing to pay.
$200 adjustable roller rockers for magnum heads? Identical to $95 Chevy adjustable roller rockers on eBay. Even arrived in the same packaging.

I agree and have no problem buying a new one, just want to make sure its very well made and reliable.

I have always used the Dakota starters and have never had a failure. A while back there was thread about starters and the starter for the '05 2500 5.7 5 speed Ram was the starter of choice. But I can't remember why. Anyway it's part number is P56029274AA and it wasn't very expensive. I can't find that thread right now.

Stu you can save quite a bit of money by hitting up your local Pick N Pull and grab a 1990 and up starter from any Dodge truck. Most you will spend is 15.00 - 20.00 and they are still very serviceable as is. As for your header removal? Yep for the old starter if it is like the stock ones, you will have to remove the left side or more correctly loosen it so it is out of the way and then take the old one out. Put the header back as the mini's are a breeze to remove and install with TTI's in place. I have been running them in all my vehicles as well as my Brother with no issues. Buying new is good but really you don't need to be spending the kinds of money some on here have. Especially when so many are available in the Pick N Pulls...twocentscr8crshr/Bill

i drive a v6 Dakota with the mini starter,at one time my buddy had a full size 3/4 360 engine truck that used what we thought was the same starter,we put them side by side and the 360 was just a little longer and bigger around, not by a lot but enough that it showed when side by side

my ladder of success is missing some rungs

Look at the ratings. The 360 starter is higher rated. The V6 is the smallest. With 2 inch TTIs and scatter shield Ill always use a reman or new savin a few bucks isnt that important.Rocky

Ive used powermaser XS units for a good while on 3 cars and have had zero issues. Not much more then others and never have gotten weak or heat soaked.

If your going to get a remanufactured starter REMY is a very good brand, stay away from A1-CARDONE.

So i just noticed when i pulled the old mini starter out that it has an adapter plate and the new one i bought did not come with one. I would assume that since they are identical you need that adapter plate to shorten the throw of the mini vs OEM style.

But what do you do it you are switching for the first time and dont have one. I would imagine you are dead in the water. I looked on Summit and i could not find anywhere that says you need the adapter. Very strange indeed..... shruggy

Never saw any plates.Just install them just like the big starters.Only thing you have to remove the plastic piece on the lugs for most.I had to shorten the large lug a bit to clear my block.Have a pic of the plate?Rocky

I've put three of them on never have had a plate like that or even heard mention of it. I also like to use the stud like it came from the factory for the top bolt. Makes it easier to hang in place before putting the other bolt in.

Ok mystery solved, as i just was informed that due to my having the 4L60 transmission, i need that adapter. Otherwise if it was going in a 727, i would not use it.

Oils well that ends well!
