I picked up a mechanical fuel pump that originally came on a 472 crate Hemi.
It looks similar to the Carter high volumn fuel pump I currently have on one of my 440's.
The only markings on the pump are the numbers 869 and "Made in Canada".
I'm hoping to use this pump on a warmed over aluminum headed 440 sixpack engine I'm getting ready to install in the wife's Challenger.
Anyone know if this is a high volumn pump?

Thanks.

i would say it'sa high volume pump but i would check the pressure , I have seen people post that they got 9psi race pumps on their crate motors , chrysler had been using up anything old they had laying around for their crate motor program , at least that's how the mismatched hardware on my crate hemi from the CUMMINS recon era appears ...

I'm planning on running the fuel lines similar to my other 440 Sixpack Challenger. The out fuel line from the pump to a regulator then to a fuel pressure guage before the carbs.
I just hope this is a HP fuel pump.

Have you tried to mount it to your engine? The pump body hits on a Hemi and you have to grind a little material off to get it to seat.

Careful with that.

MP told Cummins not to use a fuel pump on crate Hemis. There was no fuel pump on the bill of materials. They were supposed to have a block off plate and nothing else.

Cummins Reman (Toronto Canada) in their infinite wisdom (???) sourced fuel pumps from God knows where, and most of them put out something ridiculous like 15psi. Hope you have a regulator.

I'm glad those days are over, MP's new contractor
Gary Stanton builds the 426 and 472 the way they should have been built all along.

So basically the pump is mystery meat...

Wonderful

Is there anyway to bench test a fuel pump?

The pump was installed on the crate Hemi for a short time so I assume it fit without clearance issues

looks exactly like the pump that came off of mine, even though mine wasn't a crate. it was putting about between 8-9 psi. but i don't see where it was ground to clear the block, so i can't be sure that it is the same.

no gotta run it but I would split it & rinse it out inside & check for anything amiss

Where exactly should I look on the pump for grinding for clearance?

Thanks.

you want the face of the pump to fit flat on the block with the bolt holes lined up & centered & if neccessary grind around the perimeter of the pump mounting face until it sits on the block flush.

looking at the pump face on to the bolts, the boss to the left has to be ground some to fit, otherwise it butts up against the block, and you can't line the holes up.
