I've never noticed epoxy primer in a rattle can. Have I just never looked hard enough for it or just not stumbled across it? It seems when most people do body work they usually always spray(hvlp) epoxy primer. It's supposed to be the best rust fighting layer on your car? So is there a reason if they don't rattle can it then why? Or have I just been in my cave to long. You would think it would come in handy for small jobs and such. Thanks, Jay

Buy a quart of automotive grade epoxy primer + activator from a paint store and use a preval sprayer.

Quality epoxy primer is what they call a 2k product that has a resin and an activator. Most rattle can products are 1k due to the difficulty of mixing an activator inside the can. Also, once activated the epoxy will begin to set after a certain amount of time (pot life).

Anybody use it, and?

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

It says the can has a pot life of 48 hours when you start to use it, as it mixes the two components right before the nozzle. For small parts, it would be fine.

I have not used that one, but have used various other Eastwood products with excellent results each time.

Interesting product. If the paint and primer are mixed "right before the nozzle" then why the 48 hour pot life??? The fact it has a pot life makes me think you somehow activate the whole can at once. And 48 hours is a LONG pot life! Makes me wonder what the paint formulation really is.
Still...interesting. Makes me wonder if colors are right around the corner.
But, I think this would be targeted at those who don;t have a gun and just have a small project. In the long run you'd be better off just doing it old school (if you do any frequent paint work)

There has to be some residual material in the mixing area (before the nozzle) that will harden up on you.

I really don't expect anything in a rattle can to truly equal a traditional 2k paint product. I'm sure it's fine for small parts, cut throughs, etc. In that respect, it's a money saver.

I haven't used them, but there is a "button" on the bottom of the can that when pushed breaks a seal on a chamber inside the can releasing part 2 of the paint into the part 1 of the paint. So the whole can is now activated, just as it would be in a conventional gun. I have never been sold on the idea that you can get as good of paint out of a spray bomb as you can from a gun. It's usually lots thinner so it can be pushed out of that small nozzle.

Thats what I was thinking--some method of activating the whole can. Makes sense.
This method makes even more sense for colors. Small projects. odd colors etc.
I wonder what the safety people think. Catalyzed paints are far more dangerous...that is IF they use the 'normal' isocyanate hardeners, which these may very well not!

Hello, I have used the Max 2K primer in the , which was recommended by my local Autobody/Paint supplier, and am very happy with the results. It is great for small areas and save allot of time and work with mixing and cleaning equipment. As stated in a previous reply their is a button inserted into the cap. First you want to shake the can well to mix the base, remove the button and place it on the plunger located on the bottom of the can. Place the cap back on top and turn upside down on a solid surface.Punch the button after it is in place this will release the catalyst, all you do now is shake the can some more. It does have a limited shelf life once mixed but I have always used up what was in the can. This product really deserves a . Good luck on your project.....Ed
