The trans broke on a 1st to 2nd shift today.. obviously it doesnt like this power level.. I have reverse, but no forward gears.. So exploring my options, I can pick up a built Glide with all the needed parts for somewhere around $5k... Or I can pick up a used ProFlite with all the bells n whistles and bolt it in and go, for half that amount... Keeping in mind that California is experiencing a drought and its illegal to water my money tree, I have to be carefull which way I go and there is other things on my "must get" list.. So what would you do? 3000 lbs A-body with 1000hp at the crank.. 456 gears... 34 tall tire..

Proflyte in a California heartbeat Ask Dave which gear ratios he would want you to run and see how they work 2nd reading, I don't think I would buy a use any brand racing trans unless I drove it from when it was new

What kind of racing you want to do? I don't think there is one universal answer.

I think some need to keep in mind the power plant and steam it makes. It is not your average 10 second Mopar deal, just saying and feel free to flame away

1000 at the crank is a lot. 3000 is light. At some point one passes into glide territory. I think you might already have.

572 B1, needs a bit more than a standard run of the mill TF obviously. The problem with a PF type deal is they are maintenance heavy in high torque applications and are prone to periodic failure in those applications. Been there done that but no doubt they are quicker that other three speed options like Rossler etc...

Powerglide,( or similar)and gear appropriately, never look back.
The torqueflite will need constant repair and maintenance at that level, and the best of best parts. Will it work? Sure. Is it the best choice? My opinion,no. You have lots of power, and you'll always find the weak point.my two cents.
