I want to upgrade to an electric fuel pump on my 69 Coronet 383, I was just wondering if there are any particular ones I should go for ? Any recommendations ? Thanks

I've had good luck with the off-brand pumps. I found best reults with mounting the pump back by the tank and using a rubber or foam isolated clamp so the bolts that mount the clamp to the frame do not touch the pump itself.

I would keep the mechanical pump but I think the problem why I keep breaking down is a worn pushrod, any idea which one I need for a 383 ? Would this be ok ?

Yes it would but you could get it at NAPA. have you looked at the old one? this isn't a part that is sometimes good and sometimes bad. it's either worn and too short (or the cam lobe) or it's good.

If you go with an electric pump I will say I was very pleased running the Holley red pump for years on my mild 11 and 12 second builds. Its nice for a basically stock V/8 also as it has built in regulation so you dont have to put in an external pressure regulator anywhere. Its preset at about 6 psi I believe and I ran them for many years with good luck. Ron

Is it noisy ? Also if I buy one without the built in regulator what pressure should it be regulated to ideally ?

And regarding the pushrod, what length should it be ? Because I will take my current one out and see if it's worn

Having been thru the "too short" pushrod dilema with my Hemi & 383,
electric gerotor style pumps were the perfect fix. No vapor lock issues on hot days with crap pump gas, either. The Holley gerotor pump for the Challenger's Hemi & the Mallory gerotor pump on Power Wagon. Both super quiet, with the Mallory pump even quieter than the Holley. No way would I use a Holley vane pump since they're way too loud for me. Mount the pump
behind the tank & install a return line & you should have many miles of trouble & noise free crusing. Also, both pumps are available in higher gph models as well.

Yes thats the one. If you mount it with the rubber pad under it then its not super loud but it is a bit noisey. If you run a pump with external regulater then shoot for about 5 to 6 psi. Actually any pump you use should be mounted with a rubber gasket between the pump and the body. Ron

If you mount the pump the way I explained you will find it quiets them down a ton.

those electric pumps are over-kill for what he described above. a simple carter street pump 5-7 psi is all he needs. they work awesome and last forever. and no regulator to fuss with. better yet, fix what ya got!

Electric pumps are much better for fighting vapor lock. And the Holley red pump does not need an external regulator as thats what I liked about it. Ron
