Don't let your wheel and tire choice get out of hand.
When I started working on the rear suspension of my 65 Belvedere II I found a set of wheels I liked (make that had to have) along with a tall tire. I bought a set of 17" TT-2 wheels that were 17x11 with 7 1/2" backspace. They look stock from outside and would let me run almost any other wheel without a short rear. Then I found a Hoosier 17x31.5x16 tall back tire. I started doing a minitub on one side and there was just no way they were going to fit comfortably.
The holes in the center of the wheel were very large and the little 10" drums and 8 3/4 looked out of place. It ended up being back-halved with 2x3 box tubing and a Dana 60 with a 3 link Competition Engineering rear suspension and coilovers. I bought the larger Wilwood rear brakes. Yea it all looks good now but it totally busted the budget at the time.
Never again...
Stick with a 7" wheel and a 30" tire and enjoy driving it...
