I just Bought a 1970 Dodge challenger .originally a 383 car.now a 73 440.i was doing my initial inspection when i found the coil was very hot and the car hadn't been run in 7 hrs.upon further inspection.i noticed the distributor wired directly to the coil.there's no Mopar Orange,silver or gold box????Im wondering WTF is going on with this thing?any IDEA"S???

points ignition probably. Key in run position and points closed would cause your symptoms. Electronic ignition did not be come standard will later than 70.

If it is a stock Mopar electronic distributor, it'll need to have an ECU somewhere or other...

Might need to chase the wires around to see if they hid something somewhere?

At least see how it is wired how it is, then diagnose from there.

What Oz said, describe specifically what hard components you have (ECU/ballast/coil/dist) and how they are wired
