Ok, so if you wanted to do a completely stock factory type of rebuild of a 2 barrel 69 318, whose pistons, and cam would you use?

Ok, so if you wanted to do a completely stock factory type of rebuild of a 2 barrow 69 318, wholes pistons, and cam would you use? I'd use pistons without holes, or is it whores? Course my wheel barrow doesn't have a 318.

To answer the question, a complete factory stock type rebuild would use factory pistons and cam. Otherwise it's just a generic rebuild of the aftermarket type.

For a basic stock rebuild, low cost replacement parts are adequate. Sealed power pistons and rings will work. If I were you I would step it up a little since you are that far into the motor, more compression, cam, touch up the heads, etc. The motor is getting old, most likely needs fresh valve springs. Oil pump is a given. What is your goal and budget?

cheapest would be a basic rebuild kit/Summitt cam. next step up ($$$$) would be some 302 or mag heads & some hughes plateau pistons & additional machining to get quench for an efficient long block. You're only working with 318 cubes & what is the weight of the vehicle it is going into?

The bobweight ain't an issue in your case (wont affect smoothness) unless you want/need the new pistons to weigh close enough to the OE ones so that you do not have to rebalance & you do have some leeway there (HF has a cheap digital scale on sale regularly for $10) I would suggest the cheapest rebuild kit you can find (with a few add ons) (pistons/pins/plasma file fit rings/rod/main bearings/cam bearings (maybe)/cam/lifters/gaskets/thin composition head gaskets. tweak the carb/dist after you get it running. read "breakin secrets" at www.mototuneusa.com it'd definitely be a plus if you could bump the SCR with some closed chamber heads or expensive pistons
